Buzzing Earpiece iPhone Xs

When my iPhone Xs is at max volume during phone calls I often hear a high pitched “buzzing” or “crackling” sound coming from the earpiece when the person on the other end of the call is talking.

Has anyone else been experiencing this problem?

Just to update, I brought my phone in to the Apple Store with this issue and they swapped it out for a new one but the new one is having the exact same problem.

I decided to test other iPhone Xs models that were in store and all of them had the exact same issue from the earpiece/receiver when playing audio at high volumes (especially things like piano music).

I'm convinced this represents a hardware problem and will be returning the phone this week. I love everything else about the phone, but unfortunately, I need it to function well as a phone.

I really don’t know if it’s a production batch problem but it looks like the batch would be huge.

I would love to make apple aware of this somehow, lots of people are affected by this issue. My previous XS had the same issue as the replacement XS that I received two days ago. In both of my XS the buzz y present during phone calls (over 60% volume using the earpiece) or any audio playback when the volume is more than 70%.

I can‘t understand that apple didn‘t fix it. This problem is still present since the iphone X last year.

Last year there were many magazines who reportet this problem.

I think all the devices x and xs has this problem. All my friends who had an x or xs had the problem. But the most of them don‘t hear it or talk with earpeaces.

By my device the Problem is sometimes not present when the phone was very warm. But it still remains.

I wait for a software fix since the x. But nothing happens. And i think apple didn‘t do anything to fix it.

I have a similar issue: sometimes when I am talking on Facetime I can hear a crackling noise and sometimes I dont hear anymore anything. I need to stop Facetime and dial again. The other party is hearing me very well. I also got a problem once when I could not pair my iPhone XS Max with my car's bluetooth handsfree. I had to really reboot my phone.

Sounds to me a software issue.

Just came from my 4th “repair” of my xs. I showed ringtones, videos made by the phone and the up speaker was crackling and had totally distorted sound above 60 perc of volume. They once again wrote that after testing it is ok, but somehow cleared the speaker(i dont know the process). After this, distortion which was still worse disappeared. Now it works fine. As the phone has 1 month and the sound was getting worse, i think that the problem coul be with the fact that there is little space in the area around up speaker and after it catches dust, it even get worse and sound starts to be distorted. If this is true, it is fatal design problem. This can be reveled after more months of using..for me these phones are waste of money...

I am having this crackling sound in the earpiece only when making standard cellular calls over the GSM network.

When making calls over 4G/Wi-fi (FaceTime audio, Viber audio, Skype etc.) the sound from the earpiece is crystal clear.

This is why I guess, it is rather a software issue than a hardware one. Unfortunately, after updating to iOS 12.1.1 last night, the problem is still there. I don't know why this has not been fixed yet. :(

Same issue here... Only on GSM Calls. By Skype or WhatsApp i have no problem with audio quality, even at max volume. Also playing music no issue.

I think the problem is the bass sound on the calls, if they could filter these frequiencys will be nice... But i have no hope since iphone X is still not fixed.

Pretty sad

Now the question is if it worth a replace or just wait a fix via software..

Got similar issue on my XS as well 

I have it for three weeks now and I noticed earpiece buzzing just yesterday. I usually use my earbuds or handsfree set In my car so I could missed the moment the buzzing actually appeared during phone calls. But for sure everything was fine one week ago. I tried today balancing stereo channel to left one which is actually an earpeace speaker. Sound is awfully buzzing and not suitble for over 1000$ phone.

We don’t have oficial Apple Store In my country, Only Premium resselers. I’m afraid they will send my XS to be repaird In certified service and I’m not comfortable with that at All.

I don’t think it’s a software issue In my case. Before updating to 12.1.1 everything was ok. But I can’t tell if the buzzing is related to the update.

I see you guys have the speaker issue almost out of the box, so the case seems a bit different since mine revealed itself after over two weeks of use. Anyone had a similar experience as I did?

I’ve been Waiting very long to upgrade from my trusty iPhone SE and after over two weeks of perfect experience with XS All the magic disappeared.

Any updates on this topic guys?

Yesterday I tried a voice call via WhatsApp. I was surprised...the earpiece was crystal clear. I also recorded a memo and did a replay. Also crystal clear.

I doubt that this is hardware related. If it would then these kinda tests would also fail. I assume it is software related, either a general problem when using the mobile network or just related to specific carriers. I am using T-Mobile in Germany.
