When my iPhone Xs is at max volume during phone calls I often hear a high pitched “buzzing” or “crackling” sound coming from the earpiece when the person on the other end of the call is talking.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem?
I am using the developer betas and sending them feedback constantly about the issue.
The most annoying part is that even the default ringtones like “Opening” will crackle a bit at maximum volume from the earpiece.
To replicate the issue even better, go on YouTube and listen some piano music at maximum volume, it will crackle horribly.
Yes, the issue was present on iPhone 8 Plus also and was fixed with a software update and the same could be done on our XS’s if Apple will realize this is a widespread issue.
They just need to tone down a certain frequency and it won’t affect the maximum volume at all.
If enough people will provide feedback to Apple, i’m certain this will be sorted quickly.
Just tried the piano riff and the earpiece starts to vibrate when the volume of 70% or more.
In my case I’m not sure too that this is strictly a software problem because it’s a physical vibration.
I have escalated my support case yesterday and everyone else should do the same!
Apple support will contact me on Monday and provide further information. I will keep you guys updated.

I just tested a brand new iPhone XS from a colleague. Same issue. 🤮 Very noticeable when directly compared to his old iPhone 7.

Go to YouTube, increase volume to max. Play post molone better now - beginning of the song. Buzzing! Updated to the newest iOS today. The same problem.
Just to update, I brought my phone in to the Apple Store with this issue and they swapped it out for a new one but the new one is having the exact same problem.
I decided to test other iPhone Xs models that were in store and all of them had the exact same issue from the earpiece/receiver when playing audio at high volumes (especially things like piano music).
I'm convinced this represents a hardware problem and will be returning the phone this week. I love everything else about the phone, but unfortunately, I need it to function well as a phone.
To add to this, I got my Xs two days ago and have just noticed this too. I've had this issue in iPhones prior, but this is sadly the worst case. Don't know whether to return it or not because happy otherwise :(
Same issue here. Purchased first XS Max but had to return it due to a ‘buzzing’ noise. Second XS Max is no better. Disappointing considering the $1,000+ price tag. All of a sudden my iPhone is feeling less of a premium product if Apple can’t get the basics right. Apple, are you working in this issue?

I was trying to get some help from Apple support. They sent me to an authorized reseller who was not able to help me. They did just a standard audio hardware check and said that "everything seems to be ok". No, it's not ok!
This is very unsatisfying for a device that costs 1300€. I have never experienced such an issue on any iPhone I had before. How can we get rid of this annoying sound?
Hello! I have exactly the same issue!!! After I bought a new iPhone Xs, after my first Xs was extremely buzzing during phone calls, I had my second xs with the same annoying issue! The cracking sound is only during phone calls and comes from the earpiece !!! Apple, should we wait for an update?
Interesting to see that almost every XS seems to have this issue.
I contacted Apple Support this morning one more time. They handed my case over to development. They have now 4 days to respond to my case. I will keep you updated.
Is there any solution to this? I am facing the same issue. Buzzing/crackling on some phone calls and some videos. Like the apple event I was watching live right now. If I turned up the volume I could hear buzzing... Apple is this a software issue? I sure hope so.. has anyone found a solution to this?
Is it possible that we are just making too much of a fuss instead of enjoying a wonderful phone? Or are we just turning up the volume too loud? Everyone else seems to have no issues , possibly because they are using the phone at normal volumes ? I have my doubts.. can someone weigh in on this? I doubt this is a hardware issue...
I do not doubt that it is a wonderful phone. It certainly is. However, it is my 5th iPhone and I have definitely not changed my user behavior since I have my iPhone XS. Never have I ever had such a strange earpiece speaker issue that does really bother me when I am in a call. We all spent a lot of money for this gadget and shall now accept a buzzing earpiece speaker? Sorry, but no. This is not acceptable.
