Mac OS Mojave Scanner Not Working

Hi,

Installed Mac OS Mojave yesterday, my printer (Samsung M2070) cannot scan any kind of document. The problem is that it returns an error when I try to scan with JPEG, TIFF etc.

Anyone find a workaround? All functions of the printer work great in High Sierra.

Hi guys,

Same here: I have a Samsung C460W (basically the same as Stargoose above) and it's not scanning as it should. It does all the preview steps, scan and fails when trying to save as image (PNG, JPEG, etc.) with an error message.

If I choose PDF, it succeeds in saving a file, which is corrupted and can't be opened by any app (Preview, Acrobat or any other). It's connected via WiFi to my LAN. Prior to Mojave, it was working fine.

I've tried removing all the printers and adding again: useless.

On the other hand, using the provided software (Samsung Easy Printer Manager, v1.02.07 (2015-07-06)) the scanner works perfectly.

When will Apple release a statement/solution for this matter?

Let's split the issues here:

a) Apple's trusted sources = "those that paid for the developer program". Apple trust dollars. Anyone that pays "the fee" ($99) is a "trusted" source. So don't be fooled. Even curated software downloaded from the Apple App stores may have problems such as scams, fishing, etc. It happened and it will continue to happen. Trusting a software developer is a sole matter of reputation (not even size). VueScan developers are in this sole business for may years, with a very good and solid track record.

b) Apple is in the business of making their stockholders happy, not us. Forcing people into "programmed obsolescence" is a reality of this market. Long are the days where you would by a toaster and use it for 20+ years or a fridge for decades. Today things are either made-to-break or with an artificial lifetime. This is unfortunate, but this is how this industry works. For example each version of macOS or iOS drop at least one generation of hardware. I've "lost" one Mac mini to Sierra and another to Mojave (although there are ways to make they run the latest macOS).

c) Apple don't force you into updating to their latest OS. Even old OS still receive security related upgrades. They do make a compelling argument to make you do so. And then we face problems like this. I know that rolling back an OS upgrade is not an easy task, so most of the time people with bite the bullet and get "new" hardware. I've seem this before (with Mac and mostly with Windows). this is very common with 3rd part hardware.

Btw, are you having printing problems too?

This is crazy, out of desperation i've tried installing "Samsung Easy Document Creator" software for completely different scanner (SL-C480FW). I have scx-3200.

Ofc default apple printer & scanner still doesnt work. BUT Through document creator i can normally scan my documents!

Hi,

unfortunately this works not for me. In the "Samsung Easy Printer Manager" my printer appears as inactive Printer. I do not know how to change this. But when I print from macOS, its working normal. So the printer cannot be inactive. Do I have to activate a certain service on my printer so that it gets active in the Samsung software?

Thanks

Sebastian

It looks like a permission problem. The piece of software which tries to save the data is not allowed to do so. Most probably, this has to do with tightened sandboxing in Mojave vs. High Sierra.

Now the question is - what software is actually writing that data? My guess is that it must be in the Samsung driver, because I also have a Canon scanner working 100% fine with Mojave's Image Capture, while my Samsung CLX 3305 does not.

Guessing further, PDF files get created (but with garbage data inside) probably because PDF is a wrapper around the image itself, so the access problem happens somewhere hidden in the PDF creation process, whereas for more direct (JPG, PNG) formats, the error bubbles up to the surface.

So while tightened security enforced by Apple in Mojave is the change that makes the driver fail now, I'm quite sure the actual bug that needs to be fixed is in Samsung/HP's code.

I have the same issue as well. Scanning worked properly for years, and today I faced the very same. The preview is working properly but for some reason it can't save the scanned image.

I tried resetting the printing system and all with no luck.

What worked for me is that I switched from Colour to Black & White and it works since. Now in most of the cases it's fine, but of course I'd like to be able to scan in colour mode as well

Have you checked with your printer’s manufacturer for updated drivers? Have you tried any of the suggestions here in this thread? What are you expecting from us here?

After I have updated to OS Mojave my lexmark 410de scanner is not scanning. Spent with Lexmark tech last 2 days , several hours. The final verdict MAC is aware of the issue and need to do upgrades to the system.
I wish I would never to upgraded to Mojave.

Sorry to bring you the bad news but Lexmark flat out lied to you. They are responsible for maintaining their software to stay up to date with Apple’s macOS, not Apple. Apple does not develop or maintain printer drivers. They provide drivers that have been furnished by the printer manufacturers. Almost everyone in this thread comment thread who is having problems are dealing with older printers. Lexmark’s own website indicates the drivers for your printer support macOS 10.12 and earlier. If Lexmark is unwilling to update its drivers to support macOS 10.14 (Mojave) then your beef is with them, not Apple.
