Mac OS Mojave Scanner Not Working

Hi,

Installed Mac OS Mojave yesterday, my printer (Samsung M2070) cannot scan any kind of document. The problem is that it returns an error when I try to scan with JPEG, TIFF etc.

Anyone find a workaround? All functions of the printer work great in High Sierra.

Hi guys,

Same here: I have a Samsung C460W (basically the same as Stargoose above) and it's not scanning as it should. It does all the preview steps, scan and fails when trying to save as image (PNG, JPEG, etc.) with an error message.

If I choose PDF, it succeeds in saving a file, which is corrupted and can't be opened by any app (Preview, Acrobat or any other). It's connected via WiFi to my LAN. Prior to Mojave, it was working fine.

I've tried removing all the printers and adding again: useless.

On the other hand, using the provided software (Samsung Easy Printer Manager, v1.02.07 (2015-07-06)) the scanner works perfectly.

When will Apple release a statement/solution for this matter?

I'm not familiar with these global companies policys regarding user/customer of their products.

The simple truth of the matter is that some printer manufacturers often stop support of older products on a routine basis because it’s no longer profitable to do so. They’d rather you buy a new printer.

Let's split the issues here:

a) Apple's trusted sources = "those that paid for the developer program". Apple trust dollars. Anyone that pays "the fee" ($99) is a "trusted" source. So don't be fooled. Even curated software downloaded from the Apple App stores may have problems such as scams, fishing, etc. It happened and it will continue to happen. Trusting a software developer is a sole matter of reputation (not even size). VueScan developers are in this sole business for may years, with a very good and solid track record.

b) Apple is in the business of making their stockholders happy, not us. Forcing people into "programmed obsolescence" is a reality of this market. Long are the days where you would by a toaster and use it for 20+ years or a fridge for decades. Today things are either made-to-break or with an artificial lifetime. This is unfortunate, but this is how this industry works. For example each version of macOS or iOS drop at least one generation of hardware. I've "lost" one Mac mini to Sierra and another to Mojave (although there are ways to make they run the latest macOS).

c) Apple don't force you into updating to their latest OS. Even old OS still receive security related upgrades. They do make a compelling argument to make you do so. And then we face problems like this. I know that rolling back an OS upgrade is not an easy task, so most of the time people with bite the bullet and get "new" hardware. I've seem this before (with Mac and mostly with Windows). this is very common with 3rd part hardware.

Btw, are you having printing problems too?

Hi all!

I'm glad to say that macOS 10.4.4 seem to (partially) fix the problems, at least for my Samsung CLX-3815FW.

I say partially because now I can scan in color and save to almost all formats. The only format still with problems is PDF.

Savings as JPEG, JPEG200, GIF, TIFF, BMP and PNG works now.

When saving as PDF, if not "combining" (putting all scanned pages in the same PDF file), the produced PDF is not readable. If "combining", Image Capture just crashes!!!

I've checked the produced PDF file (created in non-combining mode) and it looks like some, even all, of the scan image's data is there, it's just the headers that are wrong or corrupted (the "file" command that examines the start of files to determine it's type can't recognize it).

So we are getting there. Too bad that PDF and "single-PDF" (combine) that are the most useful options are still not working. But at least Apple recognizes that the problem in on their turf, not the printers' manufacturers.

I have stong hopes for 10.4.5 (but with the Mail issue with GMail, my guess 10.4.5 is just around the corner, so 10.4.6 is more likely).

I would love to see other reports regarding other printers.

Any and all developers who are worth their salt have already converted their apps to 64 bit. You may still have earlier versions of these apps and have decided not to update because of costs. So be it. Software moves on just like any other technology product. For example, Microsoft Office is currently at version Office 2019 yet people are still using the Office 2008 version or version Office 2011. Office 2008 and Office 2011 will cease to function after the move to 64 bit only. Two solutions: 1) Don’t upgrade to the next version of macOS or 2) Do upgrade Office 2008 to Office 2019 to stay current. Staying current costs money. You will probably NOT be getting free updates to some software and other products may simply be abandoned by their developers. Macs have been 64 bit machines for years now and it’s time for the software to catch up. I currently have an Epson WF-2860 all-in-one printer/copier/scanner/fax. Epson has been slowly updating its drivers and utility apps to 64 bit over the last six months so I’m confident my Epson printer will work with the new 64 bit only macOS when it is released. I also have an HP Laserjet 1022 printer that was released in 2005, 14 years ago. it is currently working just fine with macOS 10.14.4 Mojave. I know that all bets are off when the move to 64 bit happens because it’s highly doubtful that HP would make the effort to support an almost 15 year old product. Such is life.

Hi.

I have an issue that has started since I moved to Mojave.

I am trying to scan a document using my Samsung SCX 4500 printer/scanner which is connected via my network (wired ethernet not wireless).

I invoke the Samsung scanning software via System Preferences > Printer & Scanners > Scan > Open Scanner

This allows me to see the normal dialogue. and then as normal it automatically performs an overview scan.

I then proceed with a proper scan. After the scan has been done and the software is presumably about to save the scanned image, it dies. If I have chosen to save as a JPEG file I get a dialogue box with “scanner reported an error' and 'an error occurred during scanning’. If I have selected to save a PDF file the app dies with no dialogue.

It feels like it might be a permissions issue but that’s a guess.

The About dialogue for the scanning app says it is running PrinterProxy version 14.0 (555.5).

The scanner error log is empty.

Any suggestions of how to fix this would be appreciated.

Thanks.
