Carplay is useless on Kia Soul EV with Iphone

Carplay is completely useless on Kia Soul EV with Iphone 7+, Iphone X, Iphone XS Max.

Looks ok with with Iphone 6/7.

The issue is that the screen is zoomed in so much, you cannot see maps / or any meaningful info. You try to press a button on the car screen to do something and it ends up calling someone by mistake. On several occasions, my phone screen blacked out, and I could not even see whats on my display. The only way for me to recover was either a restore, or activate voiceover so that I know what screen (completely dark and invisible) is active and can power down and restart the iphone. This issue has been there for the last year or so

iPhone Xs Max, iOS 12, same issue with Iphone 7+, Iphone X

Thanks, I did try that today with my phone and same issue. I tried it before with a different Kia and had the same issue again.

However, I made some progress now.. I just erased all contents and settings, and the issue does not exist with fresh start with my phone / Kia.

It looks like when I restore from back up , something changes, and I cannot figure out what it is.. Some sort of setting that keeps changing something from old days apparently that renders car play useless on my phone/car..

Not sure what the next steps are, this could be some sort of Internal Apple setting that I may not have access to but that changes with the back up I have..

Hi tolgafromhayward!

I understand that CarPlay isn't working properly in your car, and I'm happy to help. Please try these suggestions:

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS. After your iPhone is updated, follow these steps—checking CarPlay after each step:

  1. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car.
  3. Make sure that Siri is on.
  4. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
  5. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, and tap Forget This Car.
  6. Check your connection:
    • If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
    • If you have a wireless connection, enable AirPlane mode by going to Settings > Airplane Mode. Don't enable Airplane Mode from Control Center.
  7. If needed, install firmware updates. Check your car's manual for more information.

If you still have issues connecting to CarPlay, contact Apple Support.

Hi

I tried everything as you mentioned again. I am on iOS12 but it happens with older SW as well. Purchased a brand new Apple lightning cable, using my brand new XS Max (and older 7+), no changes.

I went to the dealer for FW upgrade, they confirmed I have the latest version

I tried this on a different model car (Buick) and everything works ok. With Kia Soul EV, I am having these issues.

I work in Santa Clara, if any one of the Apple engineers want to come collect logs, I am more than happy to arrange to meet up. As I said, What you see on Apple Car Play screen is not inline with Apple's reputation at all, and completely useless.

See screen shots attached showing how much zooming / magnification happening even though I have not enabled zooming on my phone. I wanted to send videos but I do not think I can here. User uploaded file
