Hi,

I have recently purchased an Iphone XS Max. Here is the issues i have:

- Phone calls drops randomly either just after I dialled or after 20 sec or after 5 min.. This is extremely annoying an people thinks i'm rude.. Also if i have to make important call, i can be sure this basic phone call will work properly

- Wi-fi drops randomly or being extremely slow.. => Also very annoying.

Can you help me, please ?

Thanks in advance,

I have had the problem for a month and went back to my old X. People keep posting to turn off LTE and someone marked it as an answer. Disabling functionality is not a solution to the problem and at best is a sort-of work around although it still doesn't eliminate all dropped calls. After Apple loaded some logging profiles and collecting data, what they confirmed is that I dropped many calls, as much as 15 times in a half hour. Hardware tests looked like all worked fine. Dropped calls were particularly bad if I was driving around an it appeared the phone could not make the handoff to the new tower. Apple agreed to replace the phone last night, on them, and not using my Apple Care. I drove around tonight and made a call from my new phone to an old 6S Plus. Went all over the city with the phones connected for more than 2 hours without dropping a call. It appears the phone swap resolved the dropped call issue. I saw someone else say they swapped the phone and walked out of Apple and had the new phone drop calls. I suspect either a bad batch of the new Intel cellular modems or maybe just poor quality control whereby bad chips get out sporadically and are not limited to a particular batch. Maybe something in the rest of the phone and not the modem however until Apple takes some of the bad phones and stress tests them to figure a root cause, we may never know and they may not want to publicize it. Ask Apple for a new phone. I responded back to the Apple tech tonight to let him know of my results. They need to end the pain quickly for customers that have spent a small fortune on a new phone.

With Telstra too and had the same issue. First person I spoke to when I called them told me that it's a common issue that they've had alot of calls come through and they are waiting on apple to respond with a fix. Luckily since my plan was new they agreed to replace the phone. Swapped it out with a Note 9 instead and no issues at all now. So looks like it's a matter of waiting for apple to resolve the issue.

Hi, i have the same issue. You may have tried all of this but just wanted to share what I did (as below):

1. When am at home (meaning the connectivity is relatively poor compared to outside) - i switch of the 4G and connect to the wifi - when you switch off the 4G, am able to receive calls/make outgoing calls.

2. When am outside, i switch off the wifi and connect to 4G (with either data or voice & data turned on) - am able to receive or make calls

3. The above has only alleviated my annoyance but does not solve the problem completely if we have the data services on

4. Am not sure if this is a hardware issue, but more sounds like a software issue because when the network is really good, then all seem to work fine - this means there must be something wrong with the algorithm with the way the phone selects or routes the signal

Hi there yes l was having the same problems but through a lot of trial and errors l think l found what is causing the problem with my phone and now l don’t seem to be having the problem any more please try the following and let me know how you get on.

In settings go to the Display and Brightness and turn of the (Raise To Wake And The Lock And Unlock) not sure which one is causing the problem but with these both off my phone isn’t having the problem.

My new iphone XSMax has the same issue. I'm in Australia currently on the Telstra network.. I never had this problem with my old iphone X or any previous phone, and none of my friends or family have this issue.. Yes I've cleaned the SIM card too.

This is obviously either a hardware or software problem with the iphone XS Max as this issue is being reported on other forums as well.

Is there a fix for this, or should I return the phone?

Regards

Update: I took my XS back to apple and they made a call and it dropped out. They set it up as a new phone and made a call and it dropped out again. They said to try it for a couple of days and if it happened again bring it back and they’d replace

I walked out of the store and made a call and it dropped out in 3 mins. I took it back and they replaced it. The new XS is dropping out also.

Is there anyone logging these in Australia on Optus or Voda? I’ve only seen Telstra here

In the US here on ATT, iPhone XS. It’s hard to explain to people when my calls keeps dropping, even while on WiFi calling. I was hoping new 12.1 would help and has not. I have the same issue though, person I am taking to stutters three times kind off and then calls drops. “LTE” will then drop from signal bar indicator and just be bars as the connection seems to reset. Sounds like the only fix so far is replacing hardware?

The “fix” posted on this thread is garbage. Brand new phone shouldn’t have to turn off settings. What can I do?

I am in Melbourne too. My $AUD 2300 one month old phone continues to drop calls.

I am going to go to Apple and ask for a new phone.

I wish that Apple would acknowledge the problem and communicate with its customers what they are doing to rectify the situation.

I am finding that the problem with this XS max phone is stressing me to distraction. I never thought I would buy an expensive product from an apparently reputable brand and be ignored.

The more people who go into Apple and ask for a new phone, the better.
