Now playing Apple Watch 3 series not working after watchos 5 update. What to do?

i updated my apple watch 3 series to watchos 5, and now, much to my annoyance, the “now playing” app stopped working. I can still

open it on my watch, but it doesn’t display the music i am listening to nor do the skip and replay button. I’ve tried to get it working, but nothing seems to work. i’m extremely irritated by this as i also ise the AirPods, and the only thing the apple watch is useful for, is skipping somgs and adjusting volume with airpods in.
