Phone tree not accepting keypad inputs

iPhone 8 running iOS 11

When making phone calls which are answered by an automated systems (i.e., conference call bridges, support desks, etc.), responses to prompts (i.e., "Press 1", "Press 2") by pressing the appropriate number on the keypad are not recognized by the automated system.

Issue is somewhat spurious. Some systems recognize the entry, but others do not. My current workaround is to use a Google Voice dialer for those systems.

The issue is especially challenging for my mother-in-law since she disconnected the land line and only uses her iPhone. Now she's encountering the issue when attempting to contact medical and insurance offices.

I am also having this problem. There is a certain automated system that will not recognize my entries while others will. However, I did not have this problem on iOS 11, but developed it upon downloading iOS 12.0.1. Others with the same operating system do not have the problem and I do not have the problem on other phones. It is apparent the problem lies specifically with my phone. It causes a huge problem with work calls because I can't call in.

Is anyone at Apple looking at this? Didn't think so.
