Migration Assistant Taking Too Long

I’m using migration assistant to transfer my account files from my current MacBook Pro to my new MacBook Pro. The two computers are connected using a Thunderbolt cable over which the transfer is taking place. On each MacBook the Transferring Your Information is displayed. But they seem to be stuck at “Transfering documents for user <me>... “ and the time remaining is stuck at “About 2 hours and 37 minutes at 19/MB/s”. It’s been this way for over 12 hours. What has happene?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Safari 5.1.4

Sometimes Setup Assistant becomes confused. Cancel it - you may have to do a force quit. At this point you have an incompletely migrated computer which runs the gamut from inconvenient to very not good. If you were migrating applications and that process wasn't completed - that's very not good. I'd suggest that you restart in recovery. If the 2 computers have the same operating system you can erase the hard drive and restore but if the newer computer has a newer OS you'll need to download the OS and then start Setup Assistant again. If you just migrated the account you should be able to log into the account, run Migration Assistant, and try again. This will give you 2 accounts and you can delete the first account that failed.
