iPhone 6s not connecting to iTunes after updating MacBook Pro

Yesterday I updated iTunes on my MacBook Pro to the latest version... version 12.8.

I also updated my iPhone 6s to the latest version... iOS 12.0 and I was no longer able to connect my iPhone to iTunes on my MacBook Pro. iTunes gave me a message saying 'To use your iPhone with iTunes, you need to install OS X 10.11.4 (or later)'.

So.... Today I updated my MacBook Pro to macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.4 and I am still unable to connect my iPhone to iTunes. iTunes doesn't come up when I plug my iPhone into the USB and it doesn't give me any error messages... my phone just doesn't show up in iTunes anymore.

I have tried restarting both my computer and phone, tried different USB cables, tried both USB ports and nothing seems to work.

I have a...

MacBook Pro

13-inch, Late 2011

I just received my iPhone Xs in the mail, so I am wondering... if I already backed up my iPhone 6s in iTunes before all the updating, will my iPhone Xs connect to iTunes or do I first need to figure out the problem as to why my iPhone 6s won't connect to iTunes?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks

I got a solution, or so it seems

I googled El Capitan, got a link to the App Store or something and was able to download it successfully

After that I had to reinstall iTunes a few time and eventually the phone was recognized

It would’ve been a disaster if I couldn’t as I just purchased a XS and wanted to backup and transfer info from my 6S

Anyway 🏿It finishe without anymore glitches

Thanks again

Having same issue with my 6S, which is also up-to-date on iOS software, and unfortunately trying to reinstall iTunes following the specific steps shared above doesn't resolve the issue and it doesn't recognize/show my device, which needs to be backed up. For my iTunes, I use an:

iMac

21.5-inch, Late 2012

I'm still running OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), mainly out of fear that newer OS will kill what's left of my iMac's performance potential, which is miniscule. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hey,

I saw your response and tried it, no joy.

I have an ‘09 MacBook Pro, iPhone 6s with iOS 12 and when I plug it in the same msg, “To use your iPhone with iTunes, you need to install OS X 10. 11. 4 (or later)

Used the link, downloaded the iTunes with the phone plugged in to the USB via lightening cable and the msg pops up again.

Any further suggestions? THANKS!

Hi again. So, I managed to install El Capitan 10.11.6 in the end.

Was keeping my fingers crossed when I plugged in my iPhone, but unfortunately no luck.

iTunes doesn't show the iPhone (or iPad).

The message 'To use your iPhone with iTunes, you need to install OS X 10.11.4 (or later)' doesn't come up anymore.

I tried to reinstall iTunes and see if the need for further upgrade pops up, but it doesn't.
