iPhone XS Max Wifi Problem

I have google wifi router in my home. My iPhone X was always connected to the 5 GHz channel but my new iPhone XS Max prefers the 2.4 GHz channel. The internet speed on the new iPhone XS Max is much slower than iPhone X.

I have called Apple regarding this issue but no luck yet.

NO I did not! And I am disgusted. I'm about to get fired from my job as what I need to do is taking me an extra 1-2 hours PER DAY with this slow wifi. I've swapped phones, used other friends Iphone Xs's same problem. This will get fixed when and addressed by apple I hope. What am I to do now? I'm past the 30 day return. Can't get my money back. They will just give you new phones, and that doesn't fix the problem.

I upgraded from the iPhone 7 Plus model to the iPhone XS Max. I have nothing but issues with connecting to my router. Areas where I know would connect easily to my iPhone 7 Plus, are not connecting at all to my iPhone XS Max. I even have a WiFi extender in my house; still bad to no signal at all reception. I also noticed that my cell reception is showing 1 bar less than someone else who has the same service as me (Verizon). This is very frustrating.

I have an Eero router and have tried enabling a " beta" mode they have to force the phone to use the 5ghz instead of first going to the 2.4. I tried reset network settings on the phone and doing a complete factory reset and setting everything up from scratch. Nothing seems to help. I wish apple would acknowledge this and at least say " a fix is coming" . I didn't spend $1500 to have slower wifi !!!!

I too have been having issues with my WiFi reception. My old 7 Plus gets way better reception and speed than my new iPhone XS Max from the same room.... my iPhone 7 Plus was reading 200+ mbps and my XS Max was reading 12 mbps from the same place in my house... and that’s taking into consideration that I have reset the phone and network settings.... honestly regretting buying the new phone and should have stuck with my 7 plus

I also have the same problem; weak 5Ghz coverage.

I’ve got older Apple devices - iPhone8, iPhone 6S, iPad mini 2 and a MacBook, all are fine but the XS is having coverage problems which results in failing back to 3/4G. Often I am unable to connect back to WiFi due to the password being requested/rejected.

I raised a case with Apple which was escalated to a senior engineer. They added some logging profiles to the handset, the results of which and video showing the issue were sent back. They advised there was no issue found with the software and asked me to return the phone for a replacement.

I’m now using the replacement which exhibits the same issues and I have updated Apple.

Let’s hope they find a solution soon!

same issue - continually dropping wifi. using as a hotspot and the tethered device continues to lose connection as well. seems like a clear wi-fi antenna issue. I opened a ticket with apple, they are very aware, I went through the process of collecting log data while the issue happened and supplying that information/log to the engineers. They are very aware of the issue which is why they are collecting manual logs and trying to determine if it's a software or hardware issue. I'm afraid its a hardware issue...here's hoping apple figures it out/updates whatever it takes and makes it right for everyone

Update. I think what I'm seeing is definitely a software problem. I was performing a data download intensive operation on my Xs Max and noticed it proceeding slower than normal. speediest.net showed that my download speed dropped from 285 Mbps to 175 Mbps down with an equivalent percentage drop in upload. At the same time speeds remained normal on my Mac and iPad.

I then reset network settings, logged into my wifi and speed was immediately returned to normal.

I do notice a small (6 dB: -30 vs -36) difference in WiFi signal strength between my 12.9 iPad Pro 2nd Gen and my Xs. In addition to being higher the signal on the iPad is far more consistent than on the Xs. I measured using the app NetSignal.

Apparently last night my Xs Max lost connection to my WiFi, which never happened with my X. My phone used a ton of cellular data when this happened and I’ve almost used up my allotted data of 22 GB before AT&T slows down my speeds. There has to be a bug in the iOS with these new phones. I hope Apple fixes this issue with iOS 12.1. I’ve also noticed problems connecting to my HomeKit devices. My wife and daughter have older iPhones and they have no problems staying connected to my WiFi.
