I would still book a Genius appointment, in my experience it’s had better results than trying to explain the issue over the phone (they can also see what you are trying to point out).

With regards to the stainless scratches I would personally believe that material to be more resilient than glass, so it should easily survive being in a pocket in my view (but that does depend on what else is also in the pocket ie car keys etc.

My experience of the X stainless frame is that it’s very hard wearing, only the bottom on my device is exposed to every day life due to Apple’s folio case but that area is still scratch free.

Not sure what else to suggest other than try going in to an Apple store, be firm but respectful and you might get a result.

My brand new IPhone Xs max silver, bought the day after the release here in Sweden and always (from the moment I removed the plastic protection) used with a soft silicon case become full of scratches just after 15 days of usage... same problems as shown in many videos on the net for the iPhone X.

The only reply I got from the Apple customer service has been: sorry to hear that but the guarantee do not cover esthetical damages. Esthetical damages??? For a phone that cost like a computer only after 15 days of usage? And it is now worse and worse... sorry to say since I‘m a super fan of apple (and always had iPhone since the second one released) but this time Apple ***** a lot.

Hi yes I understood that, but probably misunderstood the original question. i.e. I thought the scratc was on the bottom stainless steel part. So instead of creating a new post, I commented here, since my scratches are indeed appearing on the stainless steel frame 😟.

As told you always used with cover and never in hard conditions, but anyway the small dust from the pocket, apparently is able to badly scratch the stainless steel (see pict below). That means the coating is not so good or was defective in the phone I bought. But no way to find a possible agreement with Apple.

My original comment was based on the fact the OP's device hadn't been used and therefore the damage was most likely present from manufacture, but you would still have to rely on Apple accepting that fact although I would believe the very short time frame will help here (and there being no other signs of damage).

Your situation is different, even with just 15 days of use, the device has "actually" been used and as such the focus shifts in my view to how carefully it's been treated during that time frame or whether it has an inherent fault (are a lot of others reporting same), I'm really not sure which way that would go with Apple because it simply comes down to trust.

I have an X which is over 11 months old and it has no scratches, largely due to the fact it's always kept in Apple's folio case, but I did have an occasion 6 months ago to take the device back due to the oleophobic coating rubbing off in certain areas of the screen.

Long story short, because the device had no other signs of wear/damage, had been protected by Apple's own case plus a few others had experienced similar screen issue I was successful in convincing the Genius this was not of my making, but I still had to rely on the Genius excepting my word backed up with all of the above.

You might get a more favourable response if you book a Genius appointment, but if the device has been pocketed without screen protection (screen protector or fully enclosed case) you will need to prove it hasn't been abused which may come down to how the rest of the device looks and that word "trust" again.

Not sure what else to suggest, other than taking as much proof as possible (print-outs of other cases and forum discussions) to support your view the screen has a possible manufacturing defect.
