iPhone sending texts to wrong contact

iPhone 6S is sending texts to wrong family member. I recently updated toiOS 12. Texts I’m sending to my daighter’s number are going to my son. The address bar even switches to his number after I hit send.

Hello, Jessicaw7!

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here. I can see from your message that your iPhone 6s is experiencing some unexpected behavior. I can certainly help get to the bottom of this.

To begin, I'd like to recommend rebooting the iPhone and testing the issue one more time. You can find the steps for your iPhone 6s here: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .

If that doesn't do it, you can also try force quitting the Messages app as discussed in How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .

If the issue is still occurring, it may not be a bad idea to delete the thread that is being affected and creating an entirely new message thread for that contact. Sometimes that can help resolve these types of issues if they crop up. In Use Messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, it goes over how you can delete that thread. I've included the steps below, as well:

Delete a message or conversation

When you delete a message or conversation, you can't get it back. So make sure that you save important information from your messages.

To delete a message:

  1. In a message conversation, touch and hold the message bubble that you want to delete, then tap More.
  2. Tap User uploaded file, then tap Delete Message. If you want to delete all messages in the thread, tap Delete All in the upper-left corner. Then tap Delete Conversation.

To delete a single conversation, swipe left over the conversation that you want to delete, tap Delete, then tap Delete again to confirm. To delete more than one conversation, open Messages and tap Edit in the upper-left corner. Then tap the circle next to the conversations and tap Delete in the bottom-right corner.

To keep your messages for a certain amount of time, go to Settings > Messages > Keep Messages. Then select how long you want to keep your messages.

I hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!

Hi, Jessicaw7,

Thanks for the reply. Since Apple ID's are not designed to be shared by multiple users, it's possible to see unexpected behavior when used in that manner. The best thing to do would be to help everyone get set up with their own Apple ID's. You can even set up specialized Apple ID's for children under 13 if that would be helpful.

You can learn more on setting up an adult Apple ID right here: Create and start using an Apple ID and if you wanted to set up an Apple ID for a child under 13, you can learn more about what those accounts offer and set that up here: Create an Apple ID for your child .

Have a great day.
