Please also check
Settings -> General -> About. Go down the page to Operator / Carrier. Click Operator. Do you have the option to update there ? You may update through your Wi-Fi connection, I believe.

I’ve got the same problem on my Iphone 7. The cellular suddenly No Service and the notifications is update require. So i try to update. After finish the update, the Celluler still on error. :(

1. Take your SIM card out
2. Power your phone down
3. Return sim tray and card to their place.
4. Power phone on but before the *update* can fail turn on airplane mode for 45 seconds.
5. Turn airplane mode off.
after trying everything to try and fix the issue in the apple communities i finally brought my phone to the verizon store. They recommended a reset to factory default and if that didnt work contact verizon support and they would send a replacement. i tried the reset to default and the phone could not even activate over my home wireless network or while connected to itunes on teh computer. when you select activate manually it would always fail. So if you guys want to have some kind of functionality with the phone before you get a replacement, dont do a reset to factory default , you wont be able to get to the home screen anymore and will be off the grid until your new phone arrives.
Ever since I got the new update this issue has been happening on my phone. Hope they fix it soon.
I did a software update through iTunes and that seemed to fix the problem. I hope this helps.
no need to update at all, just take out the sim card then restar the phone, after that put the sim card back and that's it, cellular data and network conection should be
back
