Device not showing in iTunes

When I connect my iPhone 8 Plus to iTunes, it never comes up in iTunes. The help information says:

If you use a Mac

  1. Connect your iOS device and make sure that it's unlocked and on the Home screen.
  2. On your Mac, hold down the Option key, click the Apple menu, and choose System Information or System Report.
  3. From the list on the left, select USB.
  4. If you see your iPhone, iPad, or iPod under USB Device Tree, uninstall third-party security software. If not, contact Apple Support.

My iPhone shows up under "USB Device Tree". I didn't know I have third-party security software, but if I do, I don't know how to locate it and/or how to uninstall it. Any help is appreciated. I have iOS 10.13.6 but it was not one of the choices below.

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 10.3.3, I am on iOS 10.13.6

Download the current 12.8 installer for iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.

Install iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.

During the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.

Install that and iTunes should see your device.

Or see If your iOS 12 device isn't recognized by iTunes, you might need to upgrade macOS or iTunes - Apple Support.

Thank you so very much for your help. Your solution did work and I can now see my iPhone in iTunes. As a retired mainframe IT guy, I should have followed the first rule, i.e., if you've spent more than an hour on this, perhaps you should ask for assistance while you're spending another hour.

Thanks again for your help and I hope you have a great weekend.
