iTunes not recognizing my iPhone

Until last week, I was able to connect my iPhone to my iMac and sync iTunes via a cable.

However, recently iTunes does not recognize my iPhone but it does charge when I plug it in. It also launches Photos and allows me to download photos from the device.

I believe this may have coincided with me installing Malwarebytes. I have since done a complete uninstall of that application - but that did not work.

I have also tried:

- Using a different sync cable

- Restarting both the iMac and the phone

-Reinstall OSX

Nothing has worked.

Thanks

These steps seem to be working for most Mac users:

Download the current 12.8 installer for iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.

Install iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.

During the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.

Install that and iTunes should see your device.
