Wheres the setting that will remove the apps from the doc when you quit them on the iMac

Very annoying now that I have to take extra steps to get the app off the doc after closing the app.

Apple menu > System Preferences > Dock > Show recent applications in Dock.

How do I remove apps from the doc on Mac? I have a MacBook Pro Retina 13-inch running the Mojave (v. 10.14.1) and I keep on having the apps on the dock every time I open them, even if I alway choose not to show them. With the last software I didn't have this issue... is it a problem of the Mojave? Can it be solved?Thanks!

settings for doc how do you stop the open app icons from showing up on bottom right of doc? Just did clean install of high seirra and don't remember those icons ever showing up before? Looked in settings and couldn't find anything to turn them off. thanks

Apps are staying on the doc all answers to this are old, and don't solve the issue. every time I close an app, the icon stays on the dock and I have to right click>remove to make it go away. How do I prevent these apps from staying in the doc? this just started happening when I got a new macbook air, running monterey. It did not happen on my old macbook. I can choose "keep in dock" for the important ones but what's they point if they all just stay there anyways after opening???

Awesome, thanks for the answer. Its the little and cosmetic changes with these updates that drive me crazy
