Everything works in Apple CarPlay except navigation apps

Just wanted to chime in and say I'm having the same issue. When connected to carplay, Waze, Google and Apple maps will intermittently show my location incorrectly. It will generally fix itself after a few minutes. I have a 2017 Honda Accord with built in Navigation and use an iPhone SE (up to date firmware).

Apple has replaced my phone and Honda replaced my head unit and neither has fixed it. I also saw the same issue in a rental WV Passat.

Since I updated to 12.3 last week, I had no issues with GPS (and I was using every drive) until Friday, when for about 15 seconds, my location was wrong. No issues during several trips yesterday. So it definitely seems like 12.3 has lessened my issues, but definitely not fixed it completely.

I have the same problem, BMW G20 3 series with wireless carplay. When I start navigating it works ok for 30 minutes or so, then location goes crazy. Today it was stating the right position but the wrong direction for some reason so waze kept recalculating the route. Also when the issue happened today I touched the phone and it was VERY hot. Next week I have a long drive (3h or so) and I’ll bring 2 iPhones, as soon as the issue happens I’ll switch to the other iPhone and see if waze works correctly with the “fresh” phone. If it does I’ll report the workaround working here.

Also Apple has no fix, the problem happens to a few unlucky users and we are not in their radar (I guess)

Let's hope they do know about us and IOS13 solves the issue. The final release should be around mid September going by previous IOS releases.

In the meantime we all need to try to narrow down the problem and formulate a temporary workaround. Maybe it's some other app installed in the phone; has anyone reset their phone to factory settings and try to see if a factory settings iphone with apple maps works without issue?

Apple replaced my phone and that didn't fix it. And when it happens on my phone, all mapping apps are affected the same - Waze, Google Maps, and Apple Maps. Honda also replaced my entire head unit because of it. At this point I have zero hope it will ever be fixed and I might move to Android because of it.

The problem is that waze in carplay works flawlessly for ~2h before going crazy, then it starts to misinterpret the GPS data given by the car. Some people in this thread have stated the same; waze works fine at first and then goes crazy.

I highly doubt different manufacturers made the same mistake and have the same border case scenario, I do think this is an issue with how the iPhone optimizes continuous loads of work.

That being said, it's not clear to me if the issue works in a similar fashion to everyone here having the same problem; is anybody experiencing craziness as soon as they start driving?

Problem: Wrong location in waze and other navigation apps after ~2 hours of use, location is always correct in the car's navigation.

Your vehicle is cacheing the old location and is sending that information on to your phone.

You may want to contact your Ram dealer and see if they have a software fix for your vehicle's head end that fixes this issue.

For what it's worth; compare your install with that recommended in the manual:

That may be true, but the phone can only act on the location information it is being given.

If you haven't already, you should also check to see if Alpine has a relevant firmware update.

Then hopefully moving the antenna will help.

You're not understanding it.

If the CarPlay head unit provides GPS information, the phone will use that, not information from the phone's GPS antenna, no matter which model iPhone you have connected.

Can you pls find which version of Carplay you have ? What is model of head units?

I have Carplay software : cpl24.v1.4.3@c1 and i have exactly same issue .

Yesterday, I tried iPhone XR for 20km drive and it worked very well. It did not misguided even single time.

Unfortunately not. I’m going to try and update the firmware on the headunit when I get a chance. Haven’t tried a genuine Apple usb cable yet either.

Pls check what dealer does to fix issue.
