Hi,

I am having a problem with Safari.

It started today after trying to connect my iPhone (with new iOS 12) to itunes.

First itunes, doesn't recognize my iPhone anymore.

I will try to fix that.

Here is the message I get.

Would appreciate if someone could help

I am on a Macbook pro. osx 10.10.5 - Safari broken after itunes update.

For a 'dirty fix' I just deleted, (moved to trash), the following file... MobileDevice.framework

this is located /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework

Safari started up again fine straight away and I haven't noticed any issues since.

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework

Thank you Eric.

I tried opening Safari with shift held down but same result.

I also tried this: dowloading the file (libcrypto.35.dylib) and install it in my user lib, but no luck.

Everything started to go wrong since I installed the iOS 12 on my iphone and tried to connect it to my computer.

I have installed an older version of itunes (12.6.4.3) and reinstalled the latest one (12.8) and still my iPhone (and my iPod) doesn't appear in itunes. I know my computer recognizes these devices, I see them when I do "option + Apple, System Information, USB".

I run on Yosemite 10.10.5. I don't wish to upgrade to a another OS in order to keep some music production hardware/software compatible.

Still looking for a solution.

Thanks!

Dear Both,

I've exactly the same problem and I tried everything you recommended to do - problem is still not fixed.

I'm running on 10.10.5 OSX, iPhone 8 with newest iOS, iTunes version 12.8.0.150.

The main difference is:

When I'm running safe mode or another admin account - Safari also crashes with exactly the same failure message.

I also reformatted my hard disk, tried the internal hard disk repairing software - nothing.

What I know is: when I reinstall macOS from the macOS recovery: At least Safari is working then.

But then there appears a software update in the AppStore called something like "safteyupdate macOS 2017" and when I install this update Safari won't work anymore. But iTunes doesn't work neither in the on nor in the other case.

Is there anything I could do?

Thanks!!

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.

macOS 10.12/10.13 (Sierra/High Sierra) requires one of the following Macs:

MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 or later) Model 6.2 and higher

How to get macOS High Sierra

Sierra download

Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Application Compatibility

macOS Sierra 10.12: Compatible Apps

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.

Hey it worked for me as well, but will this affect transferring data from iPhone to mac?

  • Taken from the iPhone wiki: MobileDevice Library is used by iTunes to transfer data between iPhone and computer over both USB and WiFi connections. Location: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework

Not too tech savvy, just trying to understanding the repercussions of doing this, if any.

Also, does anyone have any idea why all of a sudden so many people with 10.10.5 are having this issue?

Thanks.
