Only 1/2 of an image

Downloaded images from my camera and only the top 1/2 of each image downloaded. The bottom 1/2 of the image is gray. All images were deleted after download!!! Arg!! anyone else encounter this and any chance of saving or recovering the images?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Have you tested, if only the thumbnail is damaged? Try to export the originals with "File > Export > Export unmodified original". Are the images also appearing corrupted in Preview?


If the images are also corrupted in other applications, your only hope is data recovery software - try to extract the photos from the card. This will not work, however, if you erased the card by formatting it in the camera.I have never tested data recovery software for cards, so I cannot recommend a program.

Thank you Léonie. I did exactly what you wrote and it turns out the my images are corrupt. Unfortunately I had deleted them from the card before I realized the issue. Live and learn. What is really strange is images taken with the camera prior to this last batch all downloaded fine. I will try and update the camera, if there is one, before I take additional photos just incase. Thank you for your help.
