XS Max screen easy to scratch

I have no screen protector or case and keep phone in front pocket of jeans and after 3mths I dnt have one starch on my phone. But what I can suggest is on all my other iPhones I fit screen protectors and not only do they prevent your screen getting scratched if you drop it etc the screen protector will crack but underneath your iPhone screen will not be cracked.im a diesel mechanic and I swear by them as one afternoon at work my phone vibrated off the raid ist or fell straight into the fan at full revs got hit square one it flew about 20 meters I thought it was going to be smashed to bits the screen protector was cracked to pieces and thought the screen underneath was shattered to but it wasn’t not one crack and phone worked fine so my advice to you is to buy a glass screen protector and fit it to your phone and your screen will not get any further scratches.hope this helped you

My Xs has a lot of scratches after only 3 wekks of use. The new Gorilla Glass 5 is prone to scratches due to the improved resistance to shattering. It’s a lot softer than the glass on the X. My old X has ZERO scratches! Here’s my Xs:

If enough people have this issue, Apple may be forced to offer a replacement program. #scratchgate?

I can’t believe how many scratches that are around the edges of the screen. I have never used a screen protector on any of my previous phone screens but have purchased one to stop any more. Very disappointed with the screen quality. Hopefully apple will sort this problem.

I have the same issue with my XS. I compared my 2 week ownership of the XS to 9 months with the X. The X actually looks better than the XS scratch wise. Never use a screen protector and never have. This is my first real issue with scratching. Keys always on the right phone on the left. To be fair though i think it’s a lot of me to ask apple to do something over cosmetic scratches. I could see the nightmare they would face with everyone bringing a phone back scratched. However i do believe something has changed on the glass between the X and Xs. Maybe making it less likely to crack has made it more susceptible to scratches?

Go to Staples, the have a liquid coating (not a regular screen protector) which the apply to your screen. It’s practically non destructible. Also available for iPads.

i had it aplied to 4 devices and no scratches and fingerprints wipe right off.

I’m reading this because I have had max 2 days now and my screen is scratched horribly from being in my pocket with non sharp objects for an hour. Not impressed.

Something in your pocket scratched it.

Most people wouldn't consider sand to be "sharp" but glued to a sheet of paper it's an abrasive most are familiar with.

If you find that you are damaging the screen, it would make sense to add a screen protector.

If your still within 2 weeks just return it and say your just not satisfied. Don’t say it’s because of the scratches.

I can not put my iphone xs max in my pocket or it will accumulate scratches. I never put my phone screen against anything unless it is in my pocket and it recieves so many scratches. i am trying to see if some iphone xs max/xs screens are defective

I have polished the screen to get rid of the deep scratches. Now the oleophobic coating is missing on the polished spots. I have ordered a liquid nano protection and I will report if this will restore the original surface quality. If not, I have to order Apple Care+ for 299 plus 29 USD to get a refurbished XS with a new shell.

My advice to all new XS owners: Be VERY careful with your phone! It’s not as scratch resistant as the old iPhones were.

Any piece of glass can scratch.

It makes sense to protect glass, regardless of your past experience with other pieces of glass in the past.

No one knows how you or anyone else will use their phone, but if it is in a way that might scratch the glass, the use of a screen protector is advised.

The only solution at the moment is to get Apple Care+ for $199 and pay $29to repair the glass.

And then be VERY careful with the new screen. 😀

I would just return it to apple and buy another one with a screen protector. It’s crazy to know that a new screen replacement costs $349 dollars and for a phone less than one month old.

My XS Max is also accumulating an abornmal number of scratches - not dropped, not put into a pocket with keys or anything else that typically might cause a scratch - more specifically I have not treated this iPhone differently than any other I’ve owned in recent memory. I’ve always put my iPhones either in my coat or jacket pocket by themselves. I make sure not to include anything else with an iPhone when it’s being carried in a pocket. I was just in my local Apple Store and the specialist I was talking to also owns a XS Max and told me he was suprised by how many scratches his device is already showing. Like me, he also owned a X before and had never accumulated a single scratch on that display. Hopefully Apple will address this soon.
