XS Max screen easy to scratch

I went into apple yesterday to get my screen replaced through apple care. They will not replace the screen for cosmetic scratches. It has to affect the functionality of the phone. If you accidentally drop your phone and the screen cracks then they will replace the screen. I have bought a screen protector to limit any more scratches. Very disappointed with apple. You can pay £279 and they will replace the screen for you.

Typically screen replacements are only done for cracked screens, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

As far as scratching "too easily," it seems to be common with many newer phones.

I have same issue like you. I baby my devices and never use screen protector on prior iPhones . But on this xs max got bunch-hairline scratches . I think because the screen is so soft . Apple should replace new screen on xs max for us

WOW, so terribly disappointed in my new iPhone XS. I have had every single iPhone, always gotten the maximum on returns because never a scratch on either the screen or backside. I have it in a case and it is never placed next to anything that could potentially scratch it. After less than two weeks the screen has scratches left, right and center. Not a single one of my previous "old" phones ever looked like this.

I don't have the Max version but the regular size. Extremely poor quality on the screen for such an expensive phone.

I had this exact same issue immediately with this phone. My 2.5 year old 6s max doesn’t have a single scratch on the screen yet this one did immediately. Also their is some blotches that are in the upper right corner that makes the glass cloudy and I can not get rid of them. When you invest over $1,600.00 in a phone you should either be informed by the manufacturer that the glass is soft and will scratch even if the only thing it touches is your pocket so you can immediately buy a screen protector or they should start replacing these. Not only is it huge cosmetic issue and for someone like me drives me crazy but it also kills any resale value.

I would avoid placing it in a pocket that contains keys, gravel or iron filings.

You can give Apple your feedback at the link below, but they aren’t going to replace your phone for user-caused damage.

I know the feeling ... going through the same thing ... just put on a screen protection ... I’ll wait for the s10 to come out ... I’ll probably switch ....

Different phones, different glass chemistry.

Most if not all modern phones are susceptible to scratching; see the links I posted earlier about similar issues with Samsung phones.

Same with me. I had IPhone XS for little over three weeks and it already has noticeable scratches. Phone has been handled meticulously ever since I've had it, never dropped and always kept separate from other keys when in pocket. I am starting to look for screen protector, which I never needed before.

If enough people have this issue, Apple may be forced to offer a replacement program.

Why would you say that? User-caused screen damage is in no way a product defect, and Apple didn't demonstrate the Xs by taking keys to the screen.

I have the XS Max and it has a giant scratch on it. It’s deep looking, and my device has not been exposed to anything rough. My X never had this issue, and I would place it in my satchel with my keys. My 7 Plus looked better even with a cracked screen. It’s enough to be irritating? Add a screen protector and look at the scratch, encased? No thanks!

If they examine it and see it is scratched, it's to their discretion as to whether to accept the return.

Returns need to be in like new condition, and a scratched screen isn't.

Apple is usually pretty good about it though.

Yeah man it’s terrible .... my iPhone XS Max brand new got scratches just by putting it in amd out of my pocket ... what’s going on with apple .. ... I seriously thought of returning the phone to the store and buying another brand ... I still might Do it when the S10 comes out ...
