XS Max screen easy to scratch

Is anyone else finding that their xs max has a very soft screen? I already have a bunch of hairline scratches on my new iphone. I baby my devices and yet within a couple of weeks my screen is full of marks.

I have a year old 8plus that I have used for the last year and it looks like brand new. I never use screen protectors as I am super careful, yet my new phone looks like it is 3 years old. I upgrade yearly and this is the first time I have had visible marks like this in several years.

Anyone else having this same issue?

I have the same issue with my XS. I compared my 2 week ownership of the XS to 9 months with the X. The X actually looks better than the XS scratch wise. Never use a screen protector and never have. This is my first real issue with scratching. Keys always on the right phone on the left. To be fair though i think it’s a lot of me to ask apple to do something over cosmetic scratches. I could see the nightmare they would face with everyone bringing a phone back scratched. However i do believe something has changed on the glass between the X and Xs. Maybe making it less likely to crack has made it more susceptible to scratches?

apple will not do anything unless you pay them as they will consider it cosmetic damage.

the real issue is that while the glass may be more resistant to shattering if dropped, it seems much more susceptible to scratches. I think there are enough of us here in this discussion to show that the phone scratches far easier than older iphones, but don't expect apple to recall the phones or offer free screens.

they should have recommended screen protectors or shipped them with a thin film the way some android phones are sold these days

I'm having the exact same problem. I had my 8+ for over a year without a screen protector and no problems with the screen. I just upgraded to the XS Max a week and a half ago and already the screen is scratched. One longer, deeper scratch and a cluster of small surface scratches. I honestly have no idea how it happened. I've been extra careful of not putting the phone in my purse or in the same pocket as my keys. It's pretty disappointing considering how much this phone costs and how quickly this problem has happened.

I've been looking in to solutions and it seems like AppleCare+ does include cosmetic repairs, but it's $200 (or $10 monthly) PLUS $29 for the repair. I'm planning on taking my phone in to Verizon to see how much they'll charge. Right now I already have a monthly protection plan through Verizon, though apparently it doesn't cover cosmetic damage. It's all turning into a huge headache.

I have no screen protector or case and keep phone in front pocket of jeans and after 3mths I dnt have one starch on my phone. But what I can suggest is on all my other iPhones I fit screen protectors and not only do they prevent your screen getting scratched if you drop it etc the screen protector will crack but underneath your iPhone screen will not be cracked.im a diesel mechanic and I swear by them as one afternoon at work my phone vibrated off the raid ist or fell straight into the fan at full revs got hit square one it flew about 20 meters I thought it was going to be smashed to bits the screen protector was cracked to pieces and thought the screen underneath was shattered to but it wasn’t not one crack and phone worked fine so my advice to you is to buy a glass screen protector and fit it to your phone and your screen will not get any further scratches.hope this helped you

I had the same issue. I had my iPhone max for only 3 days and it was getting long soft cracks around the edges. The rep at the apple store was trying to tell me that it’s normal wear and tear. WTF, I barely used the phone. I can’t believe I paid around $1400 for an extremely sensitive scratch prone phone. Anyways, I returned it and got a new one with a screen protector. Hopefully I don’t scratch this sensitive scratch prone screen again.

I have the XS Max and it has a giant scratch on it. It’s deep looking, and my device has not been exposed to anything rough. My X never had this issue, and I would place it in my satchel with my keys. My 7 Plus looked better even with a cracked screen. It’s enough to be irritating? Add a screen protector and look at the scratch, encased? No thanks!

After barely a month, the front glass of my XS is covered in micro scratches. I take very good care of my devices and this already looks bad. My iPhone 6 glass looked awesome for years. I went to an AT&T store and showed my phone to a rep who suggested I go back to the Apple Store I purchased it from to show them because it shouldn’t scratch like that. I made an appointment at the Burlington Mall in Burlington, MA and was basically gaslighted by a tech saying it’s “normal wear and tear” and there is nothing wrong with the phone. Of course, she suggested a screen protector to help prevent further damage. Frustrated, I left, but decided to check this forum to see if it really was just me experiencing this. Obviously, many people are experiencing the same easy scratching. I went back into the store to show a different rep all the complaints on here about the issue and he just shrugged his shoulders, said he was just a salesman...and offered to sell me a screen protector. I feel ripped off. After all these years owning iPhones, are these just really expensive pieces of junk now? Is there nothing we can do about this?
