Unable to format notes ios12

i recently upgraded to iPhone Xs and ios12. Found I am unable to format notes with grids, colors, check marks etc. when I press the panic icon in the bottom right hand corner of the note, it creates a new one.

No format option in apple notes on ipad mini 4 I have a IPad mini 4. When I use the notes app, there is no format option for notes like on my IPhone 7. Formatting notes I am unable to format the text in the notes app on my iPhone. I have read all the suggestions that have already been posted, like going to settings and making sure shortcuts are enabled (they are). I still don’t see the Aa option anywhere on my screen. I’m up to date with updates.
