Quicktime Freezes - Won't Play Any Movies

Hi, Quicktime freezes and gives me the beach ball whenever I try to play a movie. This was an issue that kept happening on my old mac and I couldn't fix it so I just started using VLC player as my default. Now, I have a brand new mac and migrated all my data over. Unfortunately, the Quicktime problem persists on the brand new, out of the box, mac. Clearly, whatever the issue, it was transferred in the migration. This seems to be an issue other people have, but I have found no solution.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm on a MacBook Pro 2018 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 running MacOS High Sierra version 10.13.6.

Thanks!

Hi there, Dacktyl!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having an issue with QuickTime freezing and I’m happy to help out! I recommend starting by taking a look at this article with steps to follow to Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac. This will perform checks and stop certain software from starting up automatically. Once you are in safe mode, see if you see the same issue with QuickTime. Also, check out this article with steps for How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac to create a new user and test the issue in the new account to see if the issue is user specific or system wide.
Let me know the results and take care!
