Final Cut Pro X can't open library, permission denied

Hi everyone,

After restoring a Final Cut Pro X library from my time machine drive (through the time machine app), I can't open the library in FCPX as i get this message.

The document “Finla Cut Library” could not be opened. Permission denied

I have updated all the sharing and permission settings to 'read and write' in the info window and still get the same message.

Any help would be much appreciated.User uploaded file

Thanks so much! The terminal command didn't work, though i'm sure it will come in handy another time. But you asking what drive the library is on got me thinking. It's on an external drive so I 'got info' on the external drive and changed the 'everyone' permissions to read & write then clicked 'apply to enclosed items' in the actions drop down. Now the library opens fine.

In what drive is this library? How is it formatted?

Also, the library is a bundle, i.e. it is in fact a folder that contains a lot of things inside. In addition to having read and write access to the bundle you need access to all its contents.

Try this: in the Terminal, type

“chmod -R 777 “

without the quotes but with the trailing space; do not press enter yet.

Drag your library to the Terminal window.

Press enter and let it do its thing. It will change all the permissions for everything inside (that’s the power of the -R option, which stands for “recursively”).
