After restarting the iPhone 7, you must enter the passcode before Siri can be used. When I try to use Siri, the phone displays a message above the keypad saying, "Enter Passcode to use Siri".
I don't want to reset or restore the iPhone 7 because I was on a trip and had taken 3 days of photos and made voice recordings. The phone was backed up before the trip, but I was not using iCloud for backup of photos or anything else. I use my iMac with an external drive for backup.
Had I known that with voice over, you have to tap to select and quickly tap twice to initiate an operation, I could have turned off voice over. I did not know that until you informed me on your first reply.
My passcode is a number that I have used for something else for over 30 years, so it is doubtful that I forgot it. I could have entered it incorrectly, but I have made several attempts and all were rejected.
I can still receive phone calls on the iPhone 7 that is locked. I am also getting various notifications. I can move them up and down by swiping with three fingers, but I cannot open them to read the full content.
I question the reasoning of Apple engineers for not allowing a fingerprint to unlock the phone after a restart. It would be interesting to know the rationale for that.
I am considering using iMobie Phone Rescue 3 to see if I can recover the photograph and audio files that were not backed up. Any thoughts on that?
From an article I read, you have to wait for 15 minutes for another passcode attempt after the eighth attempt. That is where I am now and the same article said that you get ten attempts before the iPhone will have to be restored.
