After 12.0.1 update battery drain is high

Battery drain is really high right after 12.0.1 update.

Went from 68 % to 44 % within 10 minutes

iPhone 6s, iOS 12.0.1

I have read that article and adjusted settings to maximizer performance. Battery was fine pre-12.0/12.0.1, after installing both of these it lasts about 4 hours. I used to be able to use it all day. Upgrades should upgrade performance, not significantly downgrade it. Very annoying when we are all too busy already to have to contact support for what was supposed to be an upgrade.

I updated to 12.1.2 last night on my iPhone 6. Now my new battery (replaced it over the summer) drains rapidly even without use. I had charged it to 100% right before bed, didn’t use it all night, and normally my phone will still be at 99-100% overnight. It was 73% when I woke up. Right before the update, it lasted the whole day at Disneyland. My phone now drops 2+% per minute of light use. I, too, think this is a deliberate drain on older phones in an effort to get users to buy a new one. My technologically savvy friend mentioned to me how Apple did this once before in an effort to get people to ditch their older model phones.

Same issue on iPhone 6, dropping at 2% per minute just with the home screen open. In sleep mode, also an unusual drop.

If it helps anyone, I got a slight improvement by turning off the "Screen Time" feature (Settings > Screen Time > down below "Disable"). It didn't last too long in my case, but some people are reporting it as a fix.

It's NOT how I configured my phone, it's NOT the age of the battery, it's NOT the indexing after the update (enough time passed, and the other updates don't behave like this). It just worked fine on 12.0 and the only thing that's changed is the update.

It't the same thing they did with iOS 11.4, which had me carry my charger around for several months.

I have had the same issue with my 6S plus since the 12.0 update. I drop between 2-4% with everything I open. Absolutely crazy how the battery drains that quick. I reached out to try and order a battery. The attitude I received from the associate I chatted with not impressed or happy with. I was basically advised I’m passed the contract time for a battery. I either wait for a repair box to send my phone in for troubleshooting or schedule an appointment at a store to have them take it in for troubleshooting. All at my expense of course.

I just updated 12.0 to 12.1.2 without reviewing on internet about battery issues. My battery health is 100% and normal user that isn’t playing game. I found that 12.1.2 is absolutely bug in battery life which drops dramatically from 100% to 50% just few hours.

I called to Apple contact and they replied “this is normal phenomenons after updating iOS. He says there is some application or setting which will update in background and it will be fixed just a few days later”. I don’t like his way of answer on battery issues. I never experienced such battery problem before.

They checked my battery and battery is in good condition. So what’s the problem in iOS 12.1.2 . Being Absolutely wasted phone!!!!

For what it's worth, the screen time setting has always been disabled for me and i've had dismal battery performance. I just don't want anyone to get their hopes up that this would be a solution.

I thought, how about making the phone completely useless and putting in airplane mode? Would that save some battery?

Nope.

I put it in airplane mode, then turned the screen on and set auto-lock to never so I could watch the battery without touching the phone.

Here are the percentages and the time:

69% at 2:04

68% at 2:06

67% at 2:08

66% at 2:10

65% at 2:12

64% at 2:14

63% at 2:16

62% at 2:18

61% at 2:19

60% at 2:21

59% at 2:23

58% at 2:25

that's an 11% drop in 20 minutes in airplane mode with bluetooth off and all apps closed, with the exception of the settings screen.

On a full charge, that's 3 hours of airplane mode with the settings screen on. Whoo hoo!

I googled iphone 6 standby time

and one of the answers was: 11 hours of video playback

For those wondering, how old is my battery? It's a month old. Battery health says 100%.

I too have the same problem. I have reinstalled iOS, started from scratch, even re-flashed my iPhone 6s with new firmware to ensure everything was back to "factory settings". I've followed all of the "disable this, and disable that" advice you find in all of these forums. My battery was recently replaced, is operating at 98% peak performance.

But here is the amazing thing: Apple is silent, utterly silent on the true issue. Sure they publicly say to wait until the background re-indexing is finished after the recent upgrade in iOS, or to disable certain features to ensure longer battery times. But all of us on this forum know for certain these are not the culprits of going from 80% to 30% in under an hour of minimal usage.

Apple? Are you there? Do you even care? Or do you at least care to acknowledge something...anything?

Jan 11, 2019 8:55 AM in response to Servo922

One of the saddest things is people spending hours troubleshooting this by disabling common features of their phone, making it more and more unusable, and for what? Most of the troubleshooting tips do not do anything. And the most depressing one: getting a brand new battery installed. That is unacceptable. The advertising for this phone is false when it says 11 hours watching a video.

I had exactly the same problem as everyone here: iPhone 6; Apple replaced battery four months ago; worked ok until a couple of weeks ago; battery dropping quickly; battery health showing 100%; need to recharge permanently.

Had switched off everything I could - to the point where I no longer had a smart phone!, but the one thing I hadn’t done was disable Screen Time. Can’t believe it, but seems to be working perfectly now. Only :) lost 5% in last two hours. Basically as perfect as it used to be.

Thank you yulius123!

Servo922, I'm afraid you are completely correct. My initial euphoria was a total triumph of optimism over reality. My battery is shot. With every possible setting off, the battery discharges in a ridiculously short time. Very disappointed with Apple: this replacement battery is only 4 months old - and of course now out of warranty. Apple geniuses completely unhelpful.
