10.13.6 Apps boot up on start up

I've been noticing lately that after I quit applications I was using I shutdown my Mac Pro for the day. But I see that when I boot up the next day some of the apps I was using before open as part of the machine starting up. Any help?

When you shutdown you are asked if you want to "Reopen windows when logging back in." Be sure this is not check marked.

If that's so, then go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items and remove any items you do not want to open on startup by choosing them and using the ➖ button to remove them.
