If still unresolved then your device will need to be serviced.
White City in west london - probably not worth the trip ;)
When you open voice memos and press record do you get a no audio device found message? If not then it’s not the hardware issue, if so then go back to apple, I suggest. The hardware test run over the web showed nothing, the one in store didn’t complete because the issues were pretty bad clearly
Same issue after 12.1.2 update. iPhone 7 plus with no audio devices found. Tried everything, even update to 12.1.3 beta. Spent time on the phone with support and just got done at the genius bar. Final answer is pay $340 to get it sent in for repair. It should not be the responsibility of the consumer to pay for a repair that a software update caused. Highly disappointed that I've got a phone that can't be used as a phone. I'm turning off auto update on all my other iPhones so I don't have this issue again. Apple should be covering down on faulty equipment that they produced. I'm quickly losing faith in this "trillion dollar" company.
I recently took my iPhone 7 into the apple store as I was having the same issue. After updating to iOS 12.1, my microphone stopped working making it impossible for me to talk on the phone, FaceTime, record voice memos, use Siri, etc.
The genuius bar employee was nice and helpful, but I did not get the result that I came for. He explained that since the phone is out of warranty I would need to buy a new iPhone 7 for $320. He also said that I could trade it in and purchase an iPhone 8 for $350. What kind of pricing model is this?? Does apple really believe that their consumers are so mindless and oblivious to see how marginal this difference is? The only other option I was given was to purchase a new iPhone X for $800 or however much those slightly larger, slightly better camera devices are.
I explained multiple times how I had not dropped my phone, it had no water damage, and that this was clearly a software issue on their end. I don’t understand how they expect a person to pay $320+ because they can’t create updates without screwing up older gen iPhones. 3 years ago I dropped my iPhone in water (completely my fault) and took it to the apple store and had it replaced for free no questions asked. It wasn’t even under warranty and now things are completely different. I’m extremely dissapointed in the lack of respect apple has recently shown towards their customers. I understand it is in their agenda to push new products out of the store, yet I still fail to see how any of this software issue warrants any money coming from my pocket.
Long story short, I left the store in a rage and borrowed a friends old iPhone 6 to transfer everything to. Cost me $0 to do and I will not be purchasing apple products in the future.
tldr; apple does not care about their consumers and think that their customers are dull minded people who can’t see obvious flaws in their software updates and pricing models.
Same here. This is my second round of hardware issues with the iPhone 7. I had the "no service" issue that required
a replacement phone and now the "no audio device found" problem that showed up magically after my 12.x updates. I was told that I was the first and only person to report this problem at this store. They also stated that it cannot be related to the software update, the folks on the internet are just unhappy customers. After running diagnostics it reported audio circuit failures and since it is out of warranty it will cost $300+ to swap since it cannot be easily repaired. I asked if I could downgrade to pre iOS 12.1 to prove the "it's not the software" claim and they said no way to do it. After complaining about my displeasure regarding the short life of the iPhone 7 they stated that the "average life of a smart phone is about 2 years". Wow!!! I guess I was lucky to have it work close to the "average smartphone life time". It was clearly time to walk out of the store and walk away from Apple and its products. If anyone knows how to downgrade iOS or fix this software problem, please let me know.
I am experiencing the same issue, but my phone is out of warranty. I just came back from Apple's Grand Central location and they refused to acknowledge this as a software issue. I just wrote the below email and copied their senior managers. We need to push this issue with Apple and escalate it to their senior management. This is the only we they wil address it.

Subject: iPhone 7 Plus - Serious Issue not addressed by Apple
The microphone on my iPhone 7 Plus stopped working after I updgraded to IOS 12.0.1. Before doing any research on the issue, I visited the Genius Bar at Grand Central and was told the microphone stopped working due to hardware malfunction. However, based on doing research, this is clearly not a hardware issue but a software issue (refer to the link below). Apple needs to address this issue as soon as possible and confirm definitively whether or not hundreds of testimonials from Apple users online are valid. The IOS update is clearly bricking these phones. Even though my phone is out of warranty, I should not be forced to pay Apple more money for the replacement of my unit. An $800 device should have a longer life than 3 years. Please address as possible. Please confirm back this email

This story is becoming oddly too familiar. But nothing done. If only Apple would allow us to downgrade to the iOS on which the phone was last working.
Except it isn't a software problem. It is a hardware problem.
Q: How many hardware engineers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Don't worry, they can fix it software.
Audio device (microphone but not speakers) suddenly stopped working with IOS version 12.1.2. Update also affected camera functions, music playback (headphones won't work through jack) and, interestingly, text messaging (as often as not texts do not get through either way). Have tried all resets (including factory) but problem persists. Can a bloody IOS update actually have fried my hardware?
Hi I have exactly same issue as you...i’m Trying to sort it for an 2 weeks and today I’ve spoke with one guy so we did completely reset of the phone as a new device and it’s still not working so tomorrow i’m Going to apple store ask about new device without any charge as this issue is nothing we can do during useing the device....
What Apple Store did you go to? The one I went to was less than useful at North Star Mall in San Antonio, Tx. The tech was quick to run a diagnostic test which stated that everything worked perfectly. Then a mic test was suggested. The tech quickly tried to sell me a "new" phone instead of trying to help resolve the problem caused by Apple. Felt like last class instead of first class!
Thank you for the suggestions. Apple has a case number linked to the phone and most likely they've already annotated that I've refused to pay $340+ to have it shipped in for repair. So it would be pointless to drive more that 2 hours away for the next store. The live chat on the Apple support app eventually lead me to the store. I'm pretty much here to vent about how disappointing the situation is. I'm hoping if enough consumers with the same issue come forward maybe Apple may take responsibility for it. But I'm not holding my breath on it.
Thanks again for the suggestions though.
I’ve tried everything and this issue is still persisting. I updated from iOS11 to iOS12.1 the day before yesterday and since then the audio bug had started. I didn’t drop my phone between that time and now. Before this everything was perfectly functional on my phone. I’m extremely ****** off. The nearest apple store is a two hour train ride away and it costs €50 to get there. I’m a university student. I don’t have time nor the money for this issue.
Why is it this so-called "hardware issue" only surfaces the morning after a software update? This is nonsense.
It is not the first time Apple has pushed an update to one of my Apple products that bricked the hardware. Very frustrating but typical.
It is making me second-guess my desire to have my family in the Apple ecosystem.
If a car company installed software that killed my engine I would hope they would give me a choice of uninstalling their software instead of requiring me to buy a new engine with a "no warranty" discount.
This is exactly the same condescending attitude I received from the Apple genius. I am an engineer and know a thing or two about system architecture. The line between hardware and software is not absolute like you claim. Regardless, the fact that hundreds if not thousands of Apple customers have the same issue "immediately" after the software update is suspect at best. All that I asked of Apple was to uninstall to new update and prove that its not hardware before I blindly trust them and spend more money. They refused so I refused to give them any more of my money and time. I bought a Pixel 3 and will look to the Android community for better help and hopefully a little less snobbery.
