Mail "cannot verify server identity"

I had an issue with my IMAP mail certificates today on my iPad. I found the following closed article:

Mail "cannot verify server identity"

It stated:

I finally resolved the problem by going to "Settings" --> "Accounts & Passwords" --> selecting the account that was giving me problems: The account was then displayed on my screen as IMAP. I selected the account name and reached another screen listing the "Incoming Mail Server", "Outgoing Mail Server", and all the way at the bottom "Advanced". I selected "Advanced", and when the new screen appeared I scrolled down to "Incoming Settings" and noticed that the "Use SSL" option was selected (green) --> I simply unselected "Use SSL", and the message "Cannot Verify Server Identity" went away!

I have an update to this solution that I hope may assist others:

UPDATE:

Following the above instructions, I waited 5 mins , then turned SSL back on – was able to get the three certificate options back up (continue, details, cancel); select details and the option to trust the certificate is there like it used to be when the error used to pop up on earlier IOS versions.
