No device icon in iTunes for Mac
Attempting to back up my iPad and iPhone via iTunes. Plugging in either via USB fails to show the device icon.
No success via wifi.
Mac Pro is early 2008 running OS X 10.11.8. iOS on iPhone SE and iPad Air 2 is 12.0.1. iTunes is 12.8.0.
Found this ominous statement at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201253
(Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using iTunes on your computer)
"If you use iCloud or other services like Apple Music to keep your
content up to date across all of your devices, syncing through iTunes
might be turned off."
Have tried removing other USB devices from Mac, rebooting all devices, etc.
