How do I remove activation lock?

I bought an iPhone 7 plus from a woman on a app called Mercari. And I received the phone today, but soon as I got thr phone it stated that the activation is locked. I’ve tried using my icloud but it tells me that I can not use my iCloud to unlock this phone. That I musst use the previous owner iCloud. I need help!!

Only the person who locked the phone can unlock it. If you can't contact her to get her to do this you will never be able to use the phone: there is absolutely no way round this: Apple cannot help you.

Roger ....

I am wondering how i'm supposed to track my stolen iPhone .... Everything has been correctly done to keep this from being used or accessed by anyone.. Find my iPhone states that your device will send it's general location on maps

"WHEN IT CONNECTS TO THE INTERNET!" How is that supposed to happen if the thief cant even access the home screen? Am I missing a fundamental sense of logic here?

Appreciate if you could help me understand this .........

I would really like that email to come saying "Hey! found your phone ..... here's where it just popped up at.

When you have a question it's better to start your own thread rather than tack onto an unrelated one.

'Find My iPhone' is dependent upon 1. it having been set up on the phone prior to its loss; 2. The phone being on and not wiped; and 3. able to connect to a network. Obviously if it can't connect it can't report its location. The facility is really deasigned for when you can't remember where you left it, or it's gone down the back of the sofa, or the dog has buried it in the garden (this actually happened to someone). It's not likely to be that successful if the phone's been actually stolen: and even if you can locate a stolen phone you shouldn't try to retrieve it yourself - that could be dangerous - though possibly the police might be able to, if they are willing to spend the time on it. But it's not really intended for that. The phone should be activation locked and have a passcode so that it's useless to a thief anyway.
