How to Stop numbers in Mail becoming links

We often email serial numbers which are 11 digits long, but when they are sent / received in mail, they become blue and underlined (believe this is called a smart link). How do I prevent this from happening? In the same email - an 8 digit number is sent normally. Using Mojave OS

The email thinks it's a telephone number, one with the country code. If you double click on the link it will try to call that number with FaceTime.

If you put any letter or dash in front of the number it won't be linked.

Did you notice this with previous systems? If not then it's a bug that should be reported to Apple via https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html.
