Hi.
I had also this problem on my iPhone 7.
There were 4 things that i did:
This is what i did and my text messages notification is normal for the past 2 weeks.
I hope that this will also help you.
If your keyboard is doing that, it's likely your screen digitizer is dying and you should take your phone in to be serviced.
Hi, I’ve tried all your suggestions and still same distorted text messages, but weirdly it doesn’t happen every time.
I believe it’s a software issue as it didn’t happen with iOS 11.
I’m using an iPhone X that’s only a few months old.
I believe my IPhone 7 started having this problem with a late IOS 11 update, but certainly since updating to the latest version of IOS 12. It's only with IMessage sound alerts and like everyone else says, it doesn't happen every time. It sounds like a repeating echo as though the sound alert is in a loop for approximately 3 cycles. I've changed the alert tone type but it persists.
I've done hard resets, shut the phone down, closed programs and restarted. Pretty much everything but wiping the phone and starting fresh. I've read about others having wiped their phones, only to have the problem return.
Me too and I’m so relieved to know it’s not just me, with an iPhone X that has only just fallen out of its warrantee period. Convenient!
Like most, it was first noticed with iMessage but this morning it happened receiving an email.
It seems to occur when more than one alert needs to be played at once (2 messages received simultaneously or email + message etc).
Sure it all returns to “normal” but it didn’t happen for the first 12 months... so why now? iOS 12.1.2
There's a lot of people who are seeing this on their phones and it's most likely a coding bug in Apple's IOS. I'm hoping for a fix from Apple, but the purpose of this community is to also see if someone found a solution or possible cause.
It’s not every so often, it’s constantly, every text and VERY annoying. I get a lot of texts for work ect. So my text tones spazzing out all day is ridiculous. I can’t just mute them I have to be able to know when I get a message and not miss one. If you’re only getting them occasionally and don’t mind bugged software on your phone then good for you, that’s your call, but some people would like things they paid for to work like they are supposed to. I thought I was posting where apple support was and we might actually get a fix. Thanks

Hi
I captured the video after the last update of iOS 12.1.3. First I tried to fix the problem by getting a new SIM-card but it wouldn't help. So the problem is intermitted. It's not always you get this problem.
Yesterday I discovered that when I sent a message with the Iphone of my wife to my Iphone, to provoke this issue (for capturing on video): the issue happens when you sent a message with the 'normal' Iphone to the 'problem' Iphone, and you push 'send', you can see the normal Iphone hesitates to send but the message is 'hanging', so you push once again 'send' and than the process of sending continues and you receive on the 'problem' Iphone the distored sound of message.
Also it's my expercience when there's a text communication between Android phone and iPhone, you get more of this issues. So in my opinion it's a protocol problem...
Any other tips?
Thanks!
I'm also facing the same issue. I heard some crackling and static noise sometimes when i received any message notification on my device. I had also tried all the suggested option by apple support like resetting of phone, updated to latest version, using another ringtone. I also visited apple service center two time for the same issue. They just deposit my device for one weak But they're also not able to solve this weird issue. Sometime it's too much irritating.
Who of Apple reads this anyway?
In terms of tech support, no one, at least not officially.

I have a same issue since I changed to Iphone 8Plus. It only happened once a while and I called twice for supports and they just asked me to do software updated or reset my phone. I also booked an appointment in apple store but they said nothing wrong. Good to hear not only I have this problem so Apple should do something to fix the problem instead of waiting our one year warranty expired.
Same issue here. iPhone 7 Plus 128GB. I tried different chimes for SMS, but the issue persist. It tries to play the same sound right after a few milliseconds later it just played the notification so there are 2 chimes going on and ends with an echoing repeat, while crackling like a bad speaker. This doesn't happen every single SMS, but I'd say 6 out of 10.
Yep, tried that too. Everything that I’ve tried works for maybe a day or two and then it goes right back to the same thing. It’s a software issue they need to give us a software update. That’s the only thing that’s going to work.
I had this issues on my 8+, then it died. Black screen. Would not restart. Support couldn't fix it. 3rd party master technician said it was unfixable due to a RAM short. My new iphone XR is doing the same thing. Could be hardware related. If this new iphone dies I'm going to be ******.

The echo dying bird sound happens with iPhones also. My family only has iPhones. It happens with texts from them, as well as friends w other types of phones. It happens in many different locations, home, work, driving, ... strong signal, doesn't seem to matter.
That’s what I find strangest about this; I get several SMS messages a day and haven’t heard this in months.
A friend just got a new XS Max and immediately after setup I had a friend with an Android send them several SMS messages and theirs didn’t do it either, so there’s some third factor at play here that doesn’t make the issue as simple as just an iPhone or iOS issue.
Those having this issue, does it do it immediately after a reboot?
