Hi.
I had also this problem on my iPhone 7.
There were 4 things that i did:
This is what i did and my text messages notification is normal for the past 2 weeks.
I hope that this will also help you.
I got 3 new iPhones in the last year and they all had the same issue so I gave up. The apple person I spoke with said all the phones with the problem were all most likely made in the same “lot” so if your new phone was made recently it wouldn’t be in the sane lot as most of ours, thus problem solved. At least for you. The rest of us are stuck for 1-2 years when we’re eligible for upgrades, unless that is, that they finally fix the problem with a software update.
Given the last few comments, I wanted to share for those new on this discussion that since this topic started there have been other who tried to narrow down something tying this anomaly to some other consistent event or circumstance, be it having messages open on a desk top or Android devices, ...
but several others, including myself have reported that the weird, dying, strangled, drowning, whatever sound when a message comes in has not been limited to any particular set of circumstances.
I have experienced it my car, in my house, my office, walking down the street, strong signal and weak signal, with Messages closed and open, from Androids and from iPhones.
I’m having the same problems with my iPhone 6S. It sound like the phone is having trouble getting the sound out and then echos the sound. When i go into setting to test the sound it doesn’t happen. It sounds normal there. I have “Aurora” selected as the text sound. I’m running ios 12.3.1
Something I thought the first time this happened was the amount of message conversations kept. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but ever since I started keeping most of my SMS chats, it seems to be happening. I wonder if deleting all messages (or, most of them) would fix this? I feel it shouldn’t matter. My iPhone X is a rather expensive piece of 21st Century equipment, made by the best...supposedly.
I called apple tech support yesterday and they claim to have no knowledge of the problem, and that it must be a problem with my phone, if it’s still under warranty to send it in for repairs or buy a new iPhone... so everyone needs to be calling and complaining about this or it’s never going to be fixed 😡
It’s true, the echoing distorted sound from a text message happens only when the sender has an android device.
I’m having same issue and find that it only occurs when I get texts from Android devices. It’s like my phone is alerting to the fact that I’m getting a green text message.
I have a XS max and I just got my replacement yesterday due to this issue 3rd phone and it’s still doing it so no it’s not hardware related
I have an Iphone 8 Plus (new). It didn't start until today while I'm working on my macbook at the same time with several screens on full screen. I wonder if it has something to do with the hand-off between the two devices and text messages. I noticed on my 6S that if I was on my macbook I wouldn't get notifications on either device that I had a text message if I was working in full screen. Just a thought.
Since we are just fellow Apple users here, it may happen, it may not.
However if you want to throw your iPhone in the trash because every so often a message notification tone is delivered in a choppy fashion, that's your call; I hear it happen around once every five or six weeks.
I am also having this same issue.
I had to change my iphone X over for a replacement due to screen issues, and this new one asked me to update software, im assuming my old phone already had it, since then the SMS tone is distorted and just echos or repeats itself in small bursts.
In my case it was with both iPhone and android users too. I asked my android friend to send messages continuously like 30 in a row I didn’t face the issue.
Now I started replying back to my friend and more like a conversation. After sometime I kept my phone locked without any background apps. As I got a message It gave me this issue.
I’m having the same issue on my iPhone X. It happens every single day without fail and on both incoming SMS and iMessages. The CPU being “too busy” to process a simple notification sound is a **** poor excuse for this issue to occur since the onboard CPU is more than capable of handling this task. Not to mention it occurs when the phone is locked and idle so there’s a very minimal load on the CPU. It’s rather annoying and in my case occurs frequently enough such that I actually commented on this post.
Yep, has been happening to me for a good few months on my iPhone X. Seems a bit random. Am on iOS 12.1.2. The message seems to stutter and sounds a bit like an echo, as if there were multiple messages coming through at once (which there aren't). Very annoying.
When will there be a fix for this? Randomly I’ll get text messages from people and the alert sound will echo about 6 times. Sounds like the phone is sick. It has done this for me ever since I had the phone and with every latest iOS update since May 2018. The sound on my phone otherwise works perfectly. Phone does get kinda hot from time to time though
