I can’t get a verification code when changing sim cards

I travel between two countries , changing SIM cards . Each time I’m asked to verify that my number is associated with this phone . There is a drop down menu that lists my country, St Lucia but when I put my number in the code is sent to a number that repeats the area code twice i.e. +1 758 758****** which is useless as I never get a text with a verification code. Any way of sorting this?

I put in the correct number , fortunately the area code for the country is put in by apple and like I said, it automatically repeats the area code so the number looks like this+1758(758)(again)****** and then I get a message saying my number is wrong, which of course it is as it had two lots of area code. I have tried to delete, change and omit the country code 758 bit it still puts it in twice. Same thing on my husbands iPhone.
