Itunes Isn't Recognising Iphone

When I plug in my IphoneX on my mac it charges and the Photos application pops up and works perfectly fine but iTunes remains closed and my device does not show up on iTunes at all. So basically my phone is recognised by my laptop but just not itunes. I have tried the following with no luck;

- updated iTunes(12.8.0.150) and mac software (10.13.6)

- used other cables,

- switched to another usb port

- used my iPod (works fine)

- used iTunes on another laptop (doesn't work)

- reset network, location and privacy settings

- followed the instructions to uninstall iTunes (didn't work either)

- erased all settings to default

I've prompted the "trust this computer" many times but it does not want to recognise me trusting the computer for some reason. I followed every instruction I could find online, but still nothing.I synced and updated the phone 10 minutes before it stopped working so I'm really stumped at what it could be. Please help, I really need Itunes to work!

Download the current 12.8 installer for iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.

Reinstall iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.

During the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.

Install that and iTunes should see your device.
