Image Capture Not Showing Photos

iOS 12.0.1 (iPhone X)

OS 10.12.6 (MBP 2017)

Image Capture shows my iPhone, but 'no items' in the main contents window.

I've restarted both devices multiple times and tried various start-up/plugin permutations.

I was successfully transferring thousands of photos onto an external hard drive last night. I wished to complete the transfer of the remaining photos tonight after work, but the digital gods are conspiring against me.

All previous threads that I could find on this topic suggest outdated procedures on previous iOS/OS iterations.

Thank you in advance,

Christopher

Léonie,

Thank you for your helpful reply. I updated my laptop this moring (something I've put off because, well—life). Plugging my iPhone in after that had an instant positive repsonse, and I'm transfering photos succesfully.

I also examined the 'Automatic/Keep Originals' tip. Thanks for that. (On that note, 'Keep Originals' is making for a much faster transfer between the two devices).

Thanks again,

Christopher

PS - My favorite francophone singer is named Léonie. Love it.

Are there still photos on your iPhone?

Is iCloud Photo Library enabled on the iPhone? Even if you did not enable iCloud Photo Library, you may want to check, if a system update enabled it.

OS 10.12.6 (MBP 2017)

This system version is not fully compatible with iOS 12. If your iPhone should be set to take photos in the space saving HEIF format, a Mac with OS 10.12 cannot download the photos and videos, unless you ensure, that the iPhone will convert the them to a more compatible format. See this document on how to change the settings on the iPhone for compatibility with older Mac system versions: Using HEIF or HEVC media on Apple devices - Apple Support

When you import HEIF or HEVC media from an attached iOS device to Photos, Image Capture, or a PC, the media might be converted to JPEG or H.264.

You can change this import behavior in iOS 11 or later. Go to Settings > Photos. In the TRANSFER TO MAC OR PC section, tap "Automatic" to ensure the media will be being converted when importing.
