Keyboard text replacement in iOS 12.1

Dear all,

I have a big problem after upgrading my iPhone XS to iOS 12.1 :

If you define a keyboard text replacement longer than 128 characters, it won't work anymore !

Less than 128 it's ok...

Do you also have that issue?

It's a big problem for me as I defined some typical (long) answers to messages or emails and it was very useful to use fast keyboard text replacement not to have to fully type them.

Thank you.

Regards,

Eric

Pasting text in macOS retains line breaks which then sync to my iOS devices. That’s how I work around the breaking problem in iOS.

Text replacements are a very good idea but have been marred by inexplicably sloppy and inconsistent implementation and bugs especially in syncing. It is unfortunately typical Apple to break this but not tell about it or even warn the user when he makes a shortcut longer than the new limit. Also, it makes no sense that this silly limit only exists in iOS 12.1, previous iOS versions still work properly and so does macOS.

I also still can’t understand why Apple thinks it’s a good idea that replacements are found and acted on using a fuzzy search: in many cases a shortcut is used although it may only resemble the actual one with a couple of letters. Like if the first three are right it doesn’t matter what the fourth one is.
