Hi,
Just tried to update my Mac Pro late 2013 with the newly released Apple security update 2018-002 10.13.6, both via the Mac App Store and by downloading it directly from Apple. The problem I'm having is that just after the restart the screen goes black and then nothing happens. I have tried several times now but the update doesn't start after the restart.
Anyone else having this issue?

I had exactly the same problem, posted a solution earlier in this thread I found that seems to have solved it for some folks -- should be somewhere back around page 3.
Yes, it's affecting a broad base, laptops especially, but maybe their numbers are greater or some other relative factor.

I wonder if it's doing the APFS conversion in the background, just not visible to Activity Monitor?

Me too. Mid 2011 iMac. Failed to restart with grey screen .. even in safe mode .. finished up restoring from TM. Won’t be trying again until Apple sort this mess
I see that 2018-003 is available for 10.13.6.
