I did not encrypt an iphone backup, but now it is

I had an iPhone backup, but can not restore from it since it is encrypted and I ever encrypted it. I don't have a password, since I didn't set one.

iTunes 12.8.0.150, OS X High Sierra.

iPhone 5s, iOS 12.0.1, High Sierra

Using the encrypted iTunes backup to other iOS devices. Good day! I have an encrypted backup from an iPhone running iOS 12. I wanted that particular backup to be restored on a different device entirely. Given that I still know the password, can it be done? Or does encrypting the backup on iTunes, make it only accessible to that particular iPhone from which the data of the encrypted backup came from?

a password for your encrypted backup", but when i connect my iphone again to do a new back up, the itunes still asks for the encrypted password, and i cannot create a new one either what can i do if i dont remember encypted backup password?

Backups don't encrypt themselves. It's possible you accidentally tapped the check mark for encryption.
