I have been trying to record my voice in Garageband 10.3.1. I cannot get it to work. Also, I have been unable to use dictation in word. I have been to Sounds in the System and checked. It appears correctly set up. I recently upgraded to Mojave. Oddly enough the microphone seems to work inputting my voice into Audacity.

I am replying to myself, but I found the answer and have resolved this. Go to System Properties. On to 'Privacy'/microphone. Then tick allow microphone to access Garageband. Bingo.
