After updating to Mojave, there was a problem with the display of thumbnails in the Downloads directory.
I’ve tried many solutions, like as:

sudo rm -rfv /Library/Caches/com.apple.iconservices.store; sudo find /private/var/folders/ \( -name com.apple.dock.iconcache -or -name com.apple.iconservices \) -exec rm -rfv {} \; ; sleep 3;sudo touch /Applications/* ; killall Dock; killall Finder
after that restart your mac

What is safe mode?
Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. Starting your Mac in safe mode does the following:
- Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
- Loads only required kernel extensions
- Prevents startup items and login items from opening automatically
- Disables user-installed fonts
- Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
Try booting into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, which will run some maintenance scripts and clear out a number of caches. Reboot normally and check to see if there's any improvement.
Clearing the icon cache looked like a good idea, but you should NEVER run stuff like cleanmymac. It is well known to bork systems.
I second the CleanMyMac comment. I wouldn't let it near my Macs. Might recommend it to my enemies. đź‘ż

What does mean «some maintenance scripts»?
Mojave thumbnails has not shown in ~/Downloads
