p49-imap.mail.me.com on Mojave

Hi

Shortly after I upgraded to Mojave, I haven't been able to receive emails to my iCloud.com address.

I'm using Apple's Mail so it should all be seamless. To make matters worse, as it's an iCloud.com address on Mail, there are no settings I can check, let alone change.

Yet all I get is the following error:

"Connections to host p49-imap.mail.me.com on the default ports failed."

If I go to iCloud in System Preferences, everything looks fine.

I can send emails, but cannot receive them on my Mac via Mail. However I can receive them on my iPhone or if I log on to iCloud.com on Safari, but that's not an ideal long term solution.

Have anyone else experience this and more importantly, know how to fix it?

Nothing is so cut and dry and yet this issue did happen after upgrading to Mojave - and 10.14.1 didn't resolve the issue.

There is a solution that doesn't necessitate a clean hard drive and reinstall (which is analogous to curing the disease by killing the patient).

The solution is simple but if you are on metered bandwidth it may not be a cheap one: fully log out of iCloud from System Preference.

I don't mean just untick the Mail option - that just doesn't solve the issue.

No. I mean click on "Sign Out" bottom left of that Preference Pane.

When you log back in, the iCloud email glitch should hopefully be resolved (I worked for me). However Photos will then want to resync your photos and my bandwidth was clogged for hours because of that.

But at least I can now receive emails on my Mac, so yay, I guess.

just try this method open mail app - take cursor on top menu bar and click on window - connection doctor .

Double click on red dot or right click in front of IMAP account for iCloud .

Go to system preferences - internet accounts you have to enter iCloud mail address and password for it and click on save , it will be joined .

After some time again open connection doctor the IMAP for iCloud account must have green dot in front of it .

Try booting into the Safe Mode to see if it works.

Try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Are you using some third party applications , softwares , any anti Virus , if they are used uninstall them , did you ever tried to create a new test user account How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support and then configure mail account Add or remove email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

If you are using automatic manage connection settings , even you try to add the port settings and all it won't accept .

So , first you must check the new test user account , if it doesn't help straight away do a clean installation of os ( take back up firstly ) and its far better than archive installation .

Make sure you have not created any filters for incoming mails in iCloud.com .

Eric has suggested about etrecheck , try this software and it will give the report what is running in your Mac , the software has no side effects on the Mac performance , your personal mail address or Mac serial number , is not revealed , if you feel post the results .

Thanks but the issue here is because it's an iCloud.com email address, Apple doesn't give me any options in the server settings to change absolutely anything.

The password is correct and is the same on all my devices or if I check my email with Safari. Yet in Mail.com, since Mojave, I get that error... but I can still send emails...

So how do I change or monitor the settings in Apple Mail for an iCloud.com email address?

Thanks for all this info, but it doesn't work.

I'm fully aware of the Outgoing server settings but:

1. sending mail works - it's receiving mail that I have a problem with

2. although I can choose the iCloud server from the list, that particular server doesn't not appear in the list from the "Edit SMTP Server List"

I appreciate your help.

To recap: sending mail from my iCloud email in Apple Mail works

receiving mail doesn't

Hi. When I double-click on the red dot in connection doctor, all it does it take me to the account info in Mail's preferences. No option to change anything there since it's an iCloud account.

When I go to System Preferences - Internet Accounts, I don't need to add my email address and password as my account is already there, and everything works as expected: Notes and Photos sync between devices for instance.

I'm stumped.
