Why is my iMac beeping and will not start after installing additional memory.

Ok, so what year (or exact model) imac do you have? If you will tell us that, we can post a link to the correct spec RAM for that particular model. As for the old card not working - maybe you did not seat it exactly right.
Exactly right thank you, I found my slots were very stiff and I had to push harder, more force than I would have thought necessary. All working now but still not good enough for Mojave, it must be my processor is not good enough.
Well, that usually indicates that there is a problem with either the RAM or the slots; so, did you seat it correctly? Is it the correctly spec'd RAM for your Mac?
FWIW, what OS are you on? You are NOT running iOS on an iMac.
That module is too slow for any iMac model capable of running Mojave.

if it is a mid or late 2011, then here is the correct spec for RAM:
Sounds like the additional memory doesn't meet the needs of your Mac.
Where did you get it from?
I removed the new and left the old in original position and start up was ok. I did "About this Mac" then "System Report" and "Memory" and it showed only one of my original 2g cards was working.
Thanks, I will swap them around the other way and keep trying. I got the RAM spec from the Apple Support site, It has all the same numbers on it as the original except for the memory size. I have a late 2009 27" iMac and up until now all my OS upgrades have been fine until Mojave.
Thanks, I have rechecked, it is definately late 2009, PC3-8500 Install memory in an iMac - Apple Support I will just have to keep trying or take it to someone or upgrade, Thanks to everyone for your input.
Ok, if it's a late 2009 iMac, then you better re-check things as that does not appear to be compatible with Mojave (which would eliminate the RAM problem):
I have High Sierra, I tried to upgrade to Mojave but received a message that I was unable, that is why I decided to upgrade from 4g to 8g.
