Apple TV (First Generation) & Mojave iTunes?

After we got our 3rd Generation Apple TV, original Apple TV (First Generation) move to our enclosed back porch with the treadmill and a TV. Now that Summer is almost over in Florida (November 7th, 2018 if this isn't dated) my wife has started to use the porch again. She told me that there are only 4 movies in the Apple TV (160GB model). My investigation showed there were also 4 TV shows, including dozens of episodes of a program that she no longer wanted to watch that filled up the rest of the disk drive. My plan was to go into iTunes and turn off synching of TV programs to get it to synch more movies.

I went to my Mac Mini (running Mojave 10.14.1), but could not get iTunes to see the Apple TV (First Generation).

I tried all the troubleshooting steps I could find on-line.

I could get the Apple TV to give me a 6 character code to enter into iTunes, but I couldn't get iTunes to prompt me for the code.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that Apple was going to discontinue this capability, but I have been unable to find any such reference on line today. Can anyone confirm this?

Has anyone else seen this?

See About App Store and iTunes Store availability - Apple Support for issues that affect Apple TV 1 and the iTunes Store.

Are you using wired connections? Wireless isolation could be an issue if not. I don't know if iTunes 12.9 is intended to be incompatible with the 1st gen. device. My Apple TV 3 is in a box somewhere and I use an Apple TV 4 which is working OK.
