unable to install El Capitan on a Lion (10.7.5) machine

hello, I currently have a macbook pro with OSX Lion (10.7.5).

Tried 2 routes to get the El Capitan (10.11.6) Upgrade,

1 - as per article How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support. HT206886.

The AppStore does not let me download OSX El Capitan, returning error msg "please try again later" and then "unable to change your payment information - pls install latest release of OSX".

2 - After downloading El Capitan (osxupd10.11.6.dmg) directly from support.apple.com, and launching the dmg, returns Error message : "This update requires OSX 10.11"

I am stuck in both cases. Please indicate the right link to the dmg or help otherwise. Regards,

O.Kez

Hi Eric, be sure that all compatibility checks had been done before starting the discussion. (pls review my initial note).

reminder : my machine is running Lion (10.7.5) and I'm trying to upgrade to El Capitan (latest compatible OSX release for my machine).

Since June 2018, iTunes has changed something that renders 10.7.x machines unable to upgrade along the lines described in the artcile and HENCE my problem and initiating this discussion.

Any help more than welcome ! :-)

Regards
