Hello natx20,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you're having some trouble importing photos after upgrading, and I have some information that may help.

In cases like this, it may be helpful to test the issue in both safe mode and a new user account. Doing so will help to isolate the issue to a startup item, or a user specific issue. Safe mode may also help resolve the issue on its own, as it clears some cached items.

If you run into any trouble, please reach out again.
Best Regards.

Hi brenden,

Thank you for your suggestion, but I don't think it works.

Firstly, I tried to restore the iPhone's photo library by rebuilding the cache file (just like I did since iOS 4), and it costs 3.5 hours (43xxx photos).

The next stage, I tried to remove all photos from my iPhone by syncing it with another iMac. Then rebuild the cache file and do the synchronisation again, still got this error message.

The third stage, I tried plugging in my iPhone XS Max and iPhone X to another two iMacs, all with the latest iOS/macOS, all bring me the same error message.

If I have only JPEG in my device, importation works, but not synchronisation. If I got only HEIF, or both HEIF and JPEG in one device, I will get this error message.

Thanks.
