2018 MacBook Air HD camera is in poor quality.

I just bought the new MacBook Air, noted that the HD camera is so blurry. The photo that captured using this MacBook turns out to be worse than my iPhone 7 front camera. Anyone facing the same problem?

Same here. I followed all the recommendations to fix it (trying different apps, users, utilities, etc), afterwards I called apple support and after 40min on the phone they told me that this specific computer was designed to have bad quality camera under non-natural light. They said it will only look good during day light and if I'm in a room with lots of natural light. Unbelievable! They said there's nothing they can do from their side to fix it because is not a software issue or a bug. Their only suggestion to "fix it" was that I only use the camera by day in a bright room, I'm speechless!

Unfortunately I can't return the computer because it has been a month since I bought it, but if you are still on time to return it I highly recommend to do so since apple doesn't have any solution and apparently they are not willing to do anything to compensate this fault.

Shame on apple! After 20 years of using mac I'm planning to leave it once and for all.

I am having the same issue as everyone else with a 2018 Macbook air. The FaceTime HD is absolutely terrible. Below is a comparison from my new 2018 Macbook Air and the front camera of my 2017 10.5" iPad Pro and my in the same dim lighting at the same time.

Something is terribly wrong here. Apple needs to come out and explain if this can be fixed with a software update or not.

I am not a Professional by any stretch of the imagination, but I do have quite a bit of experience with computers and I do find that apps that use the Internet for imaging of any sort often and usually do limit the resolution still images or video in the interest of speed or the time it takes to transfer the data to the receiving computer. But there is usually an option to limit or disable this feature/option.

I also got same issue on my 2018 new MacBook Air. Already contact online support, they suggest to return and get new machine. However, they cannot gurantee the camera will be in better quality or not. It's such a waste time to return again and again.

Does anyone buy 2018 New MacBook Air without HD camera issue? It's such a waste time to return again and again.

Still no feedback from Apple.

I just got my 2018 MacBook Air. The camera quality is definitely NOT HD as advertised; it's very grainy, worse quality than my iPhone 5 (I know! I need an upgrade).

I hope Apple creates a fix ASAP... I use my computer primarily for work I do on Zoom video conferencing and for recording video courses. I need an HD camera, the one advertised, and I don't want extra wires and extra accessories (like an external camera).

Apple, please fix this for your loyal customers.

Specifications to Consider

Resolution

Resolution describes the amount of detail in an image or video. In

most situations, a 720p webcam is sufficient to provide a clear, high

definition video stream. Although a 1080p webcam will technically

produce a higher definition stream, it is also reliant on increased

network bandwidth availability.

Frame Rate

Frame rate is measured in frames per second, or FPS. The faster the frame rate, the smoother

and more fluid a video image will look, however, this will also

increase bandwidth needed to stream. A lower frame rate will yield a

choppier video image, but require less bandwidth. Generally speaking, a

frame rate of 30 FPS will yield great results. In the case of more

static subject matter, lower frame rates can be set within the camera.

Considerations for Field of View

Field of view refers to what can be seen from the camera lens, and can be described in terms such as lens angle (wide-angle, normal) or zoom capability.

Low-Light Capability

Depending on your location and the lighting, selecting a webcam with

strong low light capability will dramatically improve the video image

quality.
