Files app taking up too much space

As the title suggests, why is my Files app taking up so much space?

Right now, the Files app is using over 15 GB! It can't be music or videos as this is already being represented in the "media" section when I check my iPhone storage. Is this normal?

I don't think it is double-counting, likely what is happening is that the Files app "knows" about your VLC files and is reporting them as being associated with Files. The 11.4 GB of VLC files is probably part of the 15 GB that Files is reporting, the rest being other data associated with apps that Files can access. Files (the app) is somewhat like Windows Explorer or Finder (macOS), i.e. a gateway to files that it has access to, so the usage attributed to Files is likely capturing all data that the app has access to -- it doesn't keep its own private stash of data, so no doubling-up.

Okay, I get what you're saying. But I still don't understand why "Documents & Data" is taking so much space.

For example, I have videos and music files in the location "On my Phone" -> "VLC". But this is still registering as taking up space on my VLC app as well as on the Files app. Are these video and music files being duplicated on both apps?

Just so you know what I'm saying, for example, my Files app is 15 GB, this includes videos and music on VLC. But VLC is also taking up 11.14 GB, so is the 15 GB in the files app and the 11.14 GB in the VLC app the same files x2?
